The Latvian Museum of Natural History is a solid choice for an affordable and educational outing, especially if you find yourself with a long layover in Riga. It’s easy to locate and offers plenty to see across its four floors, featuring exhibits that span from the prehistoric ages to modern-day conservation efforts.

The staff were friendly enough, but they made it clear upfront that if you don’t speak Latvian, navigating the museum can be a bit of a challenge—and they weren’t wrong. All of the exhibit descriptions and signage are in Latvian, so having Google Translate handy is essential if you want to fully appreciate the displays.

That said, the museum has a lot to offer, with an interesting mix of exhibits and plenty to explore. For the low cost, it’s worth a visit, especially if you’re in the area and enjoy natural history. Just be prepared for a language barrier and take your time with...

They have a lot of interesting natural history things here but they have one major problem when it comes to tourist. All the information signs are in Letvian. Of course you can bye a audio guide in English. The problem with that is that when you are traveling with kids that have a natural curiosity asking a bout a ton of stuff the audio guide doesn't really works. Then they tried to get around the problem bye laminating som papirs with a limited amount of info and of course without pictures on it so you have to guess what fits where. A nother problem with this solution is that these papirs are in the beginning of each room. But there are no where to put them when you exit the room so you have to go back to the start of every exhibition. Over all I'm sure they have som interesting stuff there but the museum needs an update to become more...

Magnificent museum in the heart of Riga. Very suitable for kids. The expositions caught my eyes, everything is very modern and there are a lot of ways to explore the science of nature. I went with some kids I was babysitting, one of them got really scared from the moving dinosaur they have there…he started crying but was quickly distracted by a volcano miniature. The prices are reasonable. The location of the bathrooms is a little bit inconvenient, always having to go down to the first floor is tiring. They also could’ve made some bar or mini casino there, to add some spice for the easily bored dads. Definitely...

Nice place to spent an afternoon with kids for educational purposes/ activities. Multi stores expositions for a different theme. Would recommend for families with smaller kids, ours is 6 and he was so interested in every single detail, he liked to open trees and found some interesting facts and information about natural resources. One thing that I found difficult to understand: there only a few places where you can find in any other languages except Latvian. If you go there, find someone who can translate, incase you do not know Latvian yourself. Otherwise, very interesting exposition!
