Magnificent museum in the heart of Riga. Very suitable for kids. The expositions caught my eyes, everything is very modern and there are a lot of ways to explore the science of nature. I went with some kids I was babysitting, one of them got really scared from the moving dinosaur they have there…he started crying but was quickly distracted by a volcano miniature. The prices are reasonable. The location of the bathrooms is a little bit inconvenient, always having to go down to the first floor is tiring. They also could’ve made some bar or mini casino there, to add some spice for the easily bored dads. Definitely check it out!

Nice place to spent an afternoon with kids for educational purposes/ activities. Multi stores expositions for a different theme. Would recommend for families with smaller kids, ours is 6 and he was so interested in every single detail, he liked to open trees and found some interesting facts and information about natural resources. One thing that I found difficult to understand: there only a few places where you can find in any other languages except Latvian. If you go there, find someone who can translate, incase you do not know Latvian yourself. Otherwise, very interesting exposition!

The museum is pretty nice, my 5 and 9 years old girls enjoyed it and we were checking it for around 2 hours. Most of the information is available only in Latvian. The staff is really impolite and think we live in communism time still, they don’t even try to be polite and anyhow care about the visitors. There is no cafe or restaurant in the museum premises so make sure you have ate before you arrive here. It’s ok place to visit on a rainy day but nothing super spectacular

Dabas muzejs ir lielisks! Ģeoloģijas nodaļā pavadījām gandrīz stundu, neskatoties uz to, ka manai līdznācējai 2 gadi paliks jūnija vidū. Šajā nodaļā patiešām ir ko redzēt, darīt un uzzināt, var pat izbaudīt mazu zemestrīcīti 😉 Interesanta bija arī putnu foto izstāde, īpaši manai mazajai ceļabiedrenei patika ielīst putnu vērošanas mājiņā, arī spārnu atvērumus salīdzināt ir tik aizraujoši- varbūt mēs tomēr protam lidot, tikai neuzdrīkstamies? Arī garderobe ar slēdzamajiem skapīšiem, tualete, interjers, viss mums patika un apmierināja. Vienīgā vilšanās bija kafejnīca Cielaviņa..ļoti skumīgs skats..varbūt Dabas muzejs tomēr var atrast labāku kandidatūru savai kafejnīcai? Jā, bērnu krēsliņš tur ir..bet tomēr vēlētos garšīgāku ēdienu un muzeja apmeklētājiem draudzīgāku telpas iekārtojumu. Jo Dabas muzejs ir ļoti augstā līmenī, par to ļoti liela Pateicība tā darbiniekiem un zinātniekiem. Paldies 🍀

Decent museum, rather large, but the permanent exhibitions appear somewhat old and could be more thrilling. Very little information is available in English, so it's less fun if you can't read Latvian. If you can, though, this is a good museum to go to considering the price, especially with kids

Really interesting museum, good and detailed expositions. The one and only sad part is that almost all information across expositions is on Latvian, which is bit unfriendly for tourists (as per Apr 2019, minus 1 star for this). Even still highly recommended to visit.

The Latvian National Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum in Riga, Latvia. It was founded in 1845 as the Riga Naturalist Society. The museum contains the following Departments: Custodial Botany Zoology Geology and Palaeontology Technological Support Communications Administration
