And absolute must to visit when you are in Riga. I absolutely love this place and always come back here. They have incredible local crafted beers that are so significant and different from each other. They make the beer by themselves and has a brewery that is visible through a glass wall. You can order a guide to tell you all kinds of stories, show you around the brewery and give you a beer degustation with a very good sense of humor. They gave a few snacks but they are all worth the try - dried bread with spices, smoked cheese with garlic, mustard ir chilli and incredible beed jerky. They also have board games for you to play. The place is animal friedly so you can bring your dog. There are a few separate places to sit, but mostly all people sit behing a huge table together which is a very interesting concept if you like meeting new people. They also have some great stylish merchandive that is not too expensive - t-shirts, fabric bags with viking logo, beautiful glasses for beer and shots. My favourite beer is called “Ragana” which means “witch” in english. Baltic...
Read moreVisited Riga for the first time with friends, on a few days trip, enjoying different beers. This was, by far, the best place of the trip, with many different beers brewed on site (I counted 15 on sale while I was there). Some of these were clearly experimental, flavoured with different herbs and berries. The barman was hugely knowledgeable about the beers and able to discuss in English the thinking behind each, and was prepared to give a taster for each beer. All in all, our group had about nine of the beers on offer, and probably sampled all of them. Our best beer of the whole 3-day trip was the the Rosa Vienradzis 5.6% pale ale here; but there were also other excellent beers. The barman was absolutely great, clearly enjoyed his job and loved sharing his knowledge of the beers; we didn't unfortunately get his name. If it had been possible, we'd rate this place 6 stars. A real...
Read moreWent in on my last night in Riga on a spur of the moment decision and didn't regret it for a second, an extremely appealing place that is not to be missed if you're somewhat of a beer geek.
Very very cool American-style microbrewery taproom. You walk into the tap-room, you check out what they have on tap, and you partake! They specialize in herbal beers (my favorite of the night was an excellent ginger-peppermint beer), although they make a mean IPA as well.
The guy working at the bar was a brewers apprentice (shout out to Arthur!), he was super nice and gave me a lot of the beers to taste and they were all interesting from one perspective or another.
It's about a 25 minute walk from old town and is located inside an old industrial park near the laima chocolate factory store. Don't be lazy and do the walk :D (or take the tram...) because it will be a definite highlight...
