Shockingly Poor Service at Skroderkrogs – Not Worth the Hype We arrived at Skroderkrogs in Ventspils for lunch with two families (8 people, including 4 kids), drawn by its glowing reputation as the top-rated restaurant in town. Unfortunately, the experience was a complete letdown before we even had a chance to try the food. A local was told in Latvian to wait 20 minutes for a table, but when we asked in English about seating for our group, we were curtly informed we’d need to wait an hour. Trusting the rave reviews, we agreed but asked if we could wait inside, as it was raining and windy outside. Shockingly, we were told to stay outside—no consideration for two families with young children facing harsh weather! The staff’s dismissive attitude and lack of basic hospitality were unacceptable for a place with such high ratings. We didn’t get to sample the food, so I can’t speak to its quality, but no meal justifies this kind of treatment. For a much better dining experience with attentive service, try the restaurants on Baznīcas iela 2 instead. Skroderkrogs needs a serious overhaul in customer care to live up to its reputation. Awful place, avoid it at all costs. They kept us waiting for a table, with 2 kids (3 &5) for half an hour outside in the cold while there were 4 empty tables already. They told us it was reserved. Then one of the waitresses came to tell us that they have a table but it is not for kids so we have to wait and they started placing other people (locals) who barely waited for 5 to 10 min on the 4 tables that they told us long ago that they were reserved. They could have told us from the beginning that they operate only on reservations and saved our time, especially with kids. It was a very bad experience. The waitresses were on top of it extremely rude and a bit aggressive when my husband tried to talk to them about the whole situation. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Skroderkrogs and it was a truly wonderful experience. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The decor was stylish and modern, yet still had a cozy feel. The service was outstanding - the staff were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. Speaking of the dishes, the food was exceptional. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The drinks menu was also impressive, with a wide selection of wines and cocktails to choose from. Overall, my experience at Skroderkrogs was fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.
