Rātsgalds — Restaurant in Ventspils

We visited on a Tuesday late afternoon on a day that was rather muddy. Nevertheless, we had to wait around 20 min to get a table. When we sat down though everything was smooth and didn’t have to wait long for anything (menu, ordering, drink, food, usual checkups, coffee etc). Because it was quite difficult to find a decent dining place in Ventspils by information in the internet and tourist booklets I’m going to HELP YOU AND SHARE THE MENU here (couldn’t find it online myself). The service was ATTENTIVE and POLITE. English is ok with them. There seemed to be some kind of bad air between the waiter girls but it didn’t affect us fortunately. The food was very good: TASTY, SERVED WELL and good size portions. I had pork ribs, my wife had beef goulash and we asked two side dishes alone (the rice and oven baked potatoes) for our kid and even those were served nicely and tasted good. We arrived searching for an apartment located next door in the same building. The lady from reception was late and asked to wait for her 5 min.

So we popped into this cafe hoping to order some nice brunch while we waited, especially to avoid the heavy rain outside.

The waiters themselves were nice, advising they’re not yet open and were cleaning. No problem, we were inside by one of the tables waiting for the weather to pass & for the apartment lady next door to arrive.

We were then promptly kicked out by somebody who was resting inside, which was done in very rude and impolite manner.

We pointed out that we wanted to enjoy some nice brunch here and the weather was cold with heavy rain that we hoped to just shelter for a short while.

He said that we are welcome in 40 minutes, but for now we must wait outside in the cold, raining disaster. Really disappointed. No chance we will ever return...

Staff was nice and atmosphere also, but… some things were a disappointment - why I wouldn’t return there. Food was a total disappointment. For my little son it was a terrible surprise to find hot chilli pepper in slices in cold soup, he didn’t think that it could be so spicy and his little mouth was burning. I think waiter could warn me and him about it. Also pasta unfortunately was too fat we took two and couldn’t finish them. I rarely write bad reviews, I hope restaurant manager can take in consideration my experience and improve menu and service.

One more thing - my child wanted to paint (we used to have an option in restaurants while waiting for our order) but they already gave all pencils to another little girl and my boy should sit just waiting, and it was not short time to wait. We really used to have better service and more caring staff in...
