Kalei Coffee Shop offers a rooftop location with a pleasant ambiance, which is definitely a plus. However, my recent visit resulted in just an okay experience, and there are a few things that could be improved.
While the rooftop setting is undeniably nice, I found the ordering system a bit odd. You're required to pay for your order downstairs and then carry everything up yourself. This was particularly inconvenient when I ordered two coffees and a sandwich. Having to make two trips while the waiter stood by without offering assistance felt a little strange, even if it is their established policy. It just didn't seem like the most customer-friendly approach.
Unfortunately, the coffee itself was disappointing. Both the regular coffee and the cappuccino lacked any real flavor or satisfying texture. They were, in a word, meh.
The cafe advertises itself as pet-friendly, which was a draw for me. However, my dog's minimal barking seemed to cause quite a stir. Several patrons gave us uncomfortable looks, and some even left the cafe when he barked. This made the experience rather awkward and unwelcoming, despite the advertised pet-friendliness.
The staff's demeanor also left something to be desired. They weren't particularly friendly, and when I inquired about their specialty coffee blends, they couldn't (or wouldn't) provide much information. Their responses were vague, suggesting either a lack of knowledge or a lack of willingness to engage with customers.
Finally, the food (a saj) was a bit moist and ultimately unsatisfying. The presentation was also lackluster.
Overall, Kalei Coffee Shop has potential with its rooftop location. However, the awkward ordering system, subpar coffee, uncomfortable pet-friendly atmosphere, and unenthusiastic staff significantly detracted from...
Read moreA charming hidden gem in an alley in Mar Mkhayel area, a secret garden still in the soft opening (menus printed on A4). though the brand of the coffee was on sale before, they decided to open their first branch and word to mouth it became the It place even before the opening. On a charming sunny fall morning, went with a friend. It was full house and with one waiter the service was really really slow. Only the genuine smile and sorry from Emma was the key to lower our irritation from waiting forever for our orders t be ready. Even the cakes were late that day, we left around 12 pm and there was none. Would have love to try them!I tried the americano with a shot of almond milk, though i required it boiling hot, it came hardly warm, so I went to the bartender to heat it for me. My cappucino arrived too late to be enjoyed like it took more then half an hr though i went personaly to order it from the bar. My friend tried the labneh with side veggies very tasty and generous portions. The rooftop was reserved for a photoshoot that morning, would love to go back at night too and try their food menu.I would definitely recommend having at least two waiters to make the experience...
Read moreI spent quite a bit of time at this charming spot over the past month or so, and I must say, it’s quickly become my favorite café in Lebanon.
The ambiance is consistently inviting, offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere, even during peak hours. As a coffee enthusiast with particular tastes, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the coffee, especially with Kalei's impeccable brews. It's rare to find a place that gets it just right, and I was delighted to make this my go-to for my coffee fix while in Lebanon. The herbal tea selection is also fantastic, providing a wonderful alternative.
For breakfast, their labne and awarma saj is a must-try, absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced in flavor.
The seating options are thoughtfully designed, both indoors and outdoors, offering a variety of choices to suit any mood or need, this place has it all. The overall energy of the place is such a nice vibe, creating a wonderful space to relax or focus.
While the service outside can sometimes be a bit slow, and there’s not always someone around to assist, the overall experience still makes it a place I’ll keep...
