Specto — Restaurant in Bertrange

Seemed more like the waiters were more interested in turning us away than having us. I found the restaurant on the mall directory and went because it had good reviews. The first waiter we met at the entrance didn't just let us in when we asked for a table for 2. Instead, she responded to that by telling us about different restaurants and concepts. As if to convince us against eating at Specto but to go to the Gang(another restaurant in same place) I told her we would like to eat there. The menu is only in French. We asked if there was English, but they responded no. The waiter who came to take the order didn't explain the menu vs. non menu options. We found out later when we wanted to order desert that a type of desert was only for menu options. We had not finished our drinks, but the waiter came again and emptied the bottles into our glasses to clear the bottles away.

We waited so long to get the bill and eventually went to the exit to try to pay there. Another waiter this time said we should have paid at the table. Eventually, we paid and left. The staff/waiters definitely could do better.

The food was really good but perhaps the waiters/staff only want a certain type of clientele and...

Wir waren zum Valentinstag im Specto essen. Die Begrüßung war äußerst professionell und herzlich. Das Ambiente ist sehr ansprechend, und man vergisst schnell, dass man sich in einem Foodcourt eines großen Supermarkts befindet. Die Musik war jedoch etwas laut und passte nicht ganz zur romantischen Stimmung des Abends – möglicherweise, um die Geräusche der umliegenden Restaurants und Geschäfte zu übertönen.

Der Service wirkte insgesamt etwas unorganisiert. Unser Kellner war zwar sehr freundlich, aber unsicher – er musste mehrfach nachfragen, kannte die Speisekarte nur teilweise und wirkte nicht ganz professionell. Am Nachbartisch meinte er beispielsweise: „Also, wenn keiner von euch Vegetarier ist, dann gibt es die Pintade für alle.“ Mit der richtigen Schulung hat er jedoch sicherlich das Potenzial, einen hervorragenden Service zu leisten.

Das Essen fand ich ausgezeichnet, ebenso die Weinbegleitung. Beim Hauptgericht, einer hervorragend gegarten Pintade, hatte ich jedoch den Eindruck, dass der gesamte Teller mit Cohiba-Rauch durchzogen war. Jede einzelne Komponente war stark geräuchert, wodurch der Geschmack leider überlagert wurde. Die Birne war eine großartige Idee – ihre Süße hätte dem Gericht eine perfekte Balance verliehen. Beim Lesen des Menüs hatte ich allerdings erwartet, dass nur die Pintade geräuchert wäre.

Ein wenig Feintuning hätte dem Essen gutgetan, aber man merkt, dass der Chef innovativ ist und sein Handwerk versteht.

Abgesehen davon war alles hervorragend – insbesondere das Dessert, das einen wunderbaren...

It's all subjective, innit? I'm not an effusive person, but I loved everything. The atmosphere, the crockery, the service, the food...

I'm 70, and have travelled fairly extensively. This was some of the best food I've ever eaten. The mashed potatoes were extraordinarily good. The man who made the veal meatballs truly understands what reduction is.

The staff were discreet, but very available.
