Pizzeria Um Moart in Remich has taken a baffling turn from a once-enjoyable spot to a place that feels like it’s daring you to dine there. They’re upfront about their rules—cash only, and every single person must order a large pizza and a drink, no exceptions—but that doesn’t make their approach any less outrageous or potentially illegal. This isn’t just bad hospitality; it’s a slap in the face to both locals and tourists, especially the younger generation who’ve long ditched cash for cards and apps. Their food might still be decent, but their arrogance is losing them business and goodwill. Let’s tackle the cash-only policy first. They plaster it on the door and menu, so you can’t say they’re hiding it, but that doesn’t mean it’s lawful. Under Article 128 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, euro banknotes and coins are legal tender across the Eurozone, including Luxembourg. Sure, businesses can set payment terms, but refusing cash outright—especially in a busy, tourist-friendly town like Remich—raises red flags. The European Commission has made it clear that cash refusals must be justified (say, for security or cost reasons), and Pizzeria Um Moart offers no such excuse. For locals, this is a hassle; for tourists, it’s a trap—many don’t carry euros in their pockets. And for the new generation, who pay with phones or cards in 2025, it’s a total disconnect. This isn’t quirky; it’s exclusionary and smells like a dodge to avoid card fees or taxes. Luxembourg’s consumer authorities could easily see this as an unfair barrier to trade, clashing with EU principles of free payment choice. Then there’s the mandatory one-large-pizza-and-drink-per-person rule—announced upfront, but no less scandalous. This isn’t a suggestion; it’s a demand, and it’s enforced with zero flexibility. Luxembourg’s consumer protection laws, rooted in EU Directive 2011/83/EU, require businesses to treat customers fairly and transparently. Forcing every diner—whether a kid, a light eater, or someone just wanting to share—into a hefty minimum order could be deemed an aggressive commercial practice under Article 8 of the Directive, which bans undue influence that restricts consumer freedom. It’s not about “house rules” when it alienates entire groups: friends who want to split a meal, families on a budget, or tourists expecting a quick bite. The staff’s rigid attitude makes you feel like a mark, not a guest. This isn’t hospitality—it’s coercion, and it’s hard to argue it complies with the Consumer Protection Code of Luxembourg, which demands fairness in transactions. This hits everyone—locals who’ve supported them for years and tourists drawn by Remich’s charm. The younger crowd, who don’t even think about carrying cash, are outright dismissed. I’ve watched groups walk away, frustrated, because they couldn’t pay with a card or didn’t want a full pizza each. Pizzeria Um Moart’s popularity has clearly gone to their heads; they’ve traded welcoming vibes for a greedy, unwelcoming stance that’s hemorrhaging potential customers. They’re breaking not just common decency but likely EU and Luxembourgish laws on legal tender and consumer rights. Skip this place unless you’re flush with cash and an appetite...
Read moreFor some reason, someone in the family got to know that this is the best pizza place in Luxemburg. I beg to disagree. Location, wise, it is defo too far from where I live - about 30 km. So going there for a pizza means that we have to drive for at least half an hour.
Parking was not a problem on a Saturday as there were enough spaces in a parking place just across the restaurant. We had reservations before coming, so there was really no wait for us as our table was ready when we arrived. We did see a lot of people wait by the door for a table to be free. Hence, it is definitely recommended to reserve your table before coming. Our table was near the front door but by a wall so the cold air that comes in, whenever the door is opened by arriving guests, was not too bad unlike those seated really by the door.
Service was also very quick. We had our drinks in a few minutes after they were ordered. The menu is not that extensive. But, as we came for pizzas it was logical that we would order them. When the food came, it was piping hot and I did enjoy my pizza. The crust is really crunchy, although a bit burnt on the edges. The toppings, however, disappointed because they were too wet for my taste. We ordered the tiramisu as well, and like I said to my daughter, the tiramisu of Cactus is better than the one they serve at this restaurant. It was not cold, and the cream tasted funny.
Price wise, the pizzas were priced decently. Unfortunately, it’s a cash only restaurant which I never understand. To their credit, they did warn us that they would only take cash when we reserved our table. I guess they want to cut down on banking fees. However, on the other hand, it offers less options to customers. They can also just report lower earnings and pay lower taxes. Who would know anyway as they’re getting cash which is untraceable. Would I go back? I don’t think so. Although the pizza crust is a winner and the service is outstanding, the location is too far and the pizza topping is not the best. I have just debunked that it is not the best pizza...
Read moreI’ve been a regular customer for quite some time now, and I always look forward to coming back. For me, this place truly serves the best pizza in Luxembourg — and it’s not just my opinion! It was officially voted the best pizza in the country, and that recognition is well-deserved. My all-time favorite is the Bolognese pizza — the flavor is just unbeatable. Today, I tried the Stella for the first time, and I was impressed once again. One of the things I appreciate most is their convenient opening hours. Unlike many other places that close in the afternoon, this restaurant stays open throughout the day. That means whether you’re in the mood for a late lunch, an early dinner, or something in between, they’re always ready to welcome you. The service is consistently excellent — fast, friendly, and personal. The staff really takes the time to get to know their customers, which makes every visit feel warm and familiar. The owner is genuinely kind and runs the place with heart and dedication. You can tell it’s a true family business, and the care they put into everything really shines through. As for the atmosphere, the location is charming, cozy, and comfortable — a perfect spot to enjoy a delicious meal and relax. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or planning a longer stay with friends or family, you’ll feel right at home here. And make sure to leave room for dessert! Their tiramisu is absolutely delicious — creamy, perfectly balanced, and the ideal sweet ending to...
