We recently visited this café, and unfortunately, had a disappointing experience that left my family and me feeling disrespected.
The first photo shows the meal that was served to my mother. Yes, this is the careless presentation we received — two eggs, a slice of sourdough, and a small drizzle of pumpkin puree.
Here’s what happened: My mother has dietary restrictions and cannot consume undercooked eggs due to health reasons. So, before ordering, we checked the menu and chose the Avocado Toast with Pumpkin Purée (second photo) as a suitable option for her. I politely requested a simple substitution — replacing the poached egg with scrambled eggs since she cannot have undercooked eggs.
First Round of Communication: Staff member 1 told me, “We can’t change it, this is a fixed dish.” I explained my mother’s dietary needs and kindly asked if they could accommodate the request. Staff member 1 insisted that it wasn’t possible but suggested Egg on Toast as an alternative. I agreed, as long as the eggs were fully cooked and the dish resembled the Avocado Toast with Pumpkin Purée.
Second Round of Communication — Worse Service Attitude: Then, staff member 2 came over to inform me that avocado was unavailable. I was taken aback, thinking, “Why are we only being told now?” I responded, “That’s okay, just replace the avocado with mushrooms.” However, staff member 2 began speaking in a vague and impatient manner, making it hard to understand what she was trying to communicate. Concerned about further confusion, I politely asked, “Can I speak with someone else?” Her response was, “I’m the one in charge here.” I wasn’t asking for the person in charge, but simply wanted to talk to someone who could communicate more clearly. I remained patient and clarified, “It doesn’t matter how you place the order, as long as the final dish looks like the one in the second photo, with fully cooked eggs and mushrooms instead of avocado.” She didn’t respond and walked away.
Serving the Meal — A Mistake in Execution: A few minutes later, the meal was served (see first photo). Where were the mushrooms? There were none. The dish was so poorly presented that I questioned if they had made a mistake. Before we even touched the food, I asked, “Where are my mushrooms?” The staff looked confused and replied, “Huh?” At this point, I didn’t want to argue further, so I decided to order another portion of mushrooms and scrambled eggs.
The Final Straw at Checkout To top it off, when I went to pay, I was greeted by the same “person in charge” at the register. I asked for her name, and her cold response was simply, “Why?” There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the poor experience, or even a basic “thank you” during the entire interaction.
After sharing my experience on Xiaohongshu, the café responded three days later, offering a RM50 dining voucher, which I declined. For me, this wasn’t about compensation — it was about accountability, communication, and respect.
What puzzled me even more was that, instead of addressing the behavior of staff member Alia, their response mentioned holding another meeting and potentially firing another staff member. This gave the impression that responsibility was being shifted rather than being genuinely addressed.
For more details, you can refer to the screenshots of their response, as well as my Xiaohongshu post (http://xhslink.com/a/9m98N7slIBw9), where the café’s reply is included.
To clarify — this review was never intended to maliciously give a 1-star rating. However, after time passed and the so-called “负责人” continued posting about other topics on Xiaohongshu without properly addressing or updating the situation, I felt compelled to leave this review. This is simply a reflection of my real experience.
I sincerely hope this was just an isolated case, and that future guests are treated with the care and respect that every...
Read moreBack to JB again for another episode of café hunting. This time, we decided to travel to Jalan Adda to try out the highly popular café - Commune by the Creators.
When alighting from our cab, we were greeted by this industrial shop house façade with an eye-catching white theme. As we entered the café, a very spacious and chic, contemporary white interior greeted us. This is one of the more aesthetic café in JB that we’ve been to and we were pretty impressed. Moreover, the Scandinavian furniture and pampas grass decor added a good contrast to the pale interior, livening up the space. The designs emits a very soothing and chill vibes allowing the diners to enjoy a relaxing time in this space.
For our mains, we ordered the lemon chicken quesadilla and spicy marina seafood pasta and yuzu sunset and grapefruit punch for our choice of beverage. The quesadilla was highly raved and rightfully so. The tortilla is crispy all-around and the fillings were out of this world. The café’s quesadilla easily sits on the top #1 quesadilla rank of my entire lifetime (Not that I have a track record of quesadilla gastronomy experience, probably about 10 in my entire lifetime hitherto). The meat was well marinated with the Mexican spice sauce and each bite is a melt-in-your-mouth experience. Do remember to squeeze the lemon as the supporting cast of coriander and cheese strips AND the lemon juice will add another dimension to the taste (in a good way).
The spicy marina seafood pasta was delicious as well, the squid rings were huge and the clams were also plump and fresh. My only gripe with this dish is that it can be a little too spicy as the heat builds up on your tongue, for someone who indulges in mala scale of 中辣 this can easily sit in 大辣 or 特辣 territory. For foreigners with weak spice tolerance, do know your limits when you place an order for this dish.
Let’s talk price – for our two main and two drinks, we spent a total of

For real, they may have to add more tables in the otherwise spacious cafe soon, because:
The coffee is awesome The food is awesome The prices are reasonable (to me at least)
My companion and I both had flat whites (RM 11), although I opted to have oat milk with mine (+ RM 3), and we both agreed that our coffees tasted so damn good we wanted to buy a few bags home. Spoiler alert: they don’t sell the coffee beans, but one of the staff was more than happy to redirect me to their supplier (just ask nicely, and for personal uses only). Add on to the fact that they use different beans for different types of milk! This absolutely blew my mind, and it was a very happy RM 14 spent on my flat white with oat milk. I would buy a 100 cups of that.
As for the food, the spicy marinara seafood spaghetti I wanted was an Asian take on Italian cuisine done right. The sambal like sauce was just spicy enough for a weak Chinese person like me, but still flavourful enough for my companion who has more sadistic tastebuds. My companion opted for one of the specials: the Yuzu eggs benedict. Another well-cooked dish, and I liked the choice of the purple-coloured sourdough instead of the usual heavy brioche.
Now I wonder, why was the sourdough purple? It was a good sourdough nonetheless.
Spent a little more than RM 100 (as of July 2022) for 3 beverages, two mains for lunch, and a cheesecake for dessert. Might be a bit on a steeper side for the locals but the thoughtfulness put into each dish and beverage on the menu is priceless in my opinion.
Even if the place gets hyped up, I would totally come back again for my next 100 cups of coffee, and it makes a pretty nice place to read a book, catch up with a friend (many locals were doing that) or people watch— we saw a badass biker couple walk in, leather pants and all, and they fit right in the crowd. This place is really for everyone and anyone who likes coffee in a clean...
