I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years (my timeline can prove it), but I’ve never written a review—until today. Why? Because for the first time ever, I actually felt like the service deserved a shoutout.
Over the years, the food has always been decent, no complaints there. But the service? Hmm… let’s just say it was always meh. Cold faces, no smiles, robotic interactions—it almost felt like we were bothering them just by showing up.
But today was different. The moment I stepped in, I told my family, “The staff must’ve changed!” Because the atmosphere just felt different. A young female staff greeted us with a friendly smile, asked how many of us there were, brought us to our table, passed us the menu, explained the QR code ordering system, and even said “thank you” — all with genuine friendliness. I was honestly shocked (in a good way)!
And she wasn’t just polite to us—she was smiling, answering questions cheerfully, and being helpful to every customer. She even walked with this energetic bounce that made the place feel more alive. It’s such a huge contrast compared to the past… (possibly the older folks before—maybe the boss or relatives?—let’s just say smiles were not part of the uniform).
Anyway, kudos to this young lady for changing the whole vibe of the place. I truly hope the management recognises her positive energy and how much it improves the customer experience. It made me finally want to write a review after all...
Read moreSeven of us had lunch today at Kampung Boy Restaurant, and overall, it was a good experience. The restaurant was quite crowded during lunch time, but the staff were accommodating enough to open the upper floor just for our group, which we really appreciated.
Ordering was done via QR code – simple and convenient – and although the food took a while to arrive (likely due to the lunchtime crowd), it was worth the wait. One minor issue was that the waitress, who seemed new, had some difficulty identifying and matching the dishes to the right people. It would have been helpful if the dishes were named as they were served, so we could easily sort them ourselves.
As for the food – it was excellent. I personally had the Mee Siam Special, which came with Ayam Penyet. The dry-style mee siam was packed with flavor, rich in spices, and had a good level of heat from the chili. The ayam penyet was crispy on the outside and tasty throughout. At RM16.80, it felt reasonably priced for the portion and quality.
The coffee was also a pleasant surprise – rich and satisfying.
The total bill came to RM146 for seven people, which is quite normal for a café-style lunch. All in all, great food and a decent experience. Just a little room for improvement in service, but I’d...
Read moreVisited Restoran Kampong Boy over the weekend, and overall, the experience was a mix of pros and cons. The food was quite average, with most dishes not standing out much in terms of flavor. However, the nasi kerabu was the highlight—it had a fragrant and flavorful rice base that was enjoyable. The iced coffee and tea were decent as well, providing a refreshing complement to the meal.
Price-wise, it was reasonable for the portion sizes and quality of food, making it a fairly affordable dining option. However, the biggest downside was the service. The restaurant seemed overwhelmed by the weekend crowd, resulting in extremely slow service. It took a long time for our food to arrive, which was quite frustrating, especially since we noticed other tables experiencing similar delays.
On the plus side, the atmosphere was comfortable. The restaurant is air-conditioned, making it a pleasant and cooling place to dine in, especially on a hot day. The interior was fairly simple but clean and well-maintained.
Overall, it’s an okay spot if you’re in the area and craving nasi kerabu, but be prepared for potential wait times, especially...
