I had a disappointing experience this morning at Joo Seng Cafe, which I feel compelled to share. I went there for breakfast with friends, and unfortunately, the meal was far from enjoyable.
The fried noodles, kuey teow, and yellow noodles were unacceptably oily, making them completely unappetizing. It was hard to enjoy the meal when everything was drenched in so much oil.
The presentation was bizarre. I ordered the fried noodles, and logically, a spoon and fork should have been served with the dish. Instead, they were placed deep inside a small bowl of clear water. At first, I assumed it was hot water for hygienic purposes, but when we asked the staff, we were shocked to find out it was actually soup! This was an unprecedented and strange way of serving utensils, and while I wasn’t expecting fine dining, it just felt odd and unprofessional. (Forgot to take photo but you guys can try and see)
The pan mee soup was incredibly salty, which completely spoiled my mood.
Overall, I can only describe this meal as a "cholesterol meal set" to start the day, and I sincerely hope the management takes these points into consideration for improvement. This was definitely not the standard I was expecting from such a popular kopitiam.
However, to be fair, the roti kahwin and teh tarik were worth a try and quite nice. They were the only redeeming qualities...
Read moreFood: Roti kahwin: 2/5 1 piece of bread cut into half with kaya and butter. Bread has nice crunch to it but overrated. stingy kaya n butter :( can get better roti kahwin in town area.
Mee Jawa 4/5
fried chicken rice: 4/5 One of my favourite spot for Malay fried chicken rice.
Teh tarik: 3/5 Smooth n rich foam. too 'teh' taste with some 'siap siap' after taste. Recommended to bottom up right after u got ur drink.
service: 3/5 Due to the no of customers they are usually pack. dont be expected to be served fast and treated equally. People who arrived later may get their orders first. It's first grab, first served instead.
1/5 (experience few months back) Gave counter lady money for the roti kahwin but lady never returned any change. claimed i'm lying when i asked for my change. No CCTV at counter to prove. Luckily my wallet doesnt have small change at all (i dont carry a lot of cash with me) and i even have to showed her my wallet content to prove it's empty for her to trust me. Very bad service. but dont let this discourage u from coming here. it could be they are busy and that particular counter lady isnt paying attention.
I hardly visit the restaurant anymore due to the crowd and overall average service and food. Might visit again to Tapao the food rather than...
