Sunnydale 1928 Cafe @ Chemsain Building — Restaurant in Sarawak

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant due to the poor attitude of the staff. From the moment I walked in, some of the workers seemed uninterested and unwelcoming. They made unpleasant facial expressions while taking orders and appeared to treat well-dressed or wealthier-looking customers with more respect and friendliness which felt unfair.

There were moments when staff raised their voices rudely saying “Huh?” loudly when they didn’t catch an order, instead of politely asking for clarification. The overall attitude came off as judgmental and unprofessional.

As for the food, it was just okay nothing particularly special or memorable. It wasn’t bad but definitely not something I’d return for.

This place has potential but they seriously need to work on their customer service. Every guest deserves to be treated with the same respect, no matter how they’re dressed or...

The place is clean and bright. Serves both western and local. More choices in the dinner menu. Their local dishes like chicken rice taste like home cook and not stall bought. The hakka noodle is on the salty side. The name of this cafe takes after the name of the house which used to stand on this land. Some of the old wooden windows from the old house has been salvaged and used as decorations for this cafe.

Fast forward to Aug 2022 Menu has been updated since then... No more Hainan chicken rice in the menu. You can refer to their FB for latest menu. Today we ordered local kch favourite, crispy tomato noodles, Cantonese noodle, manicai beehoon. And a plate of prawn aglio olio. What I like about the dishes is they use real fish,...

Cons: Waiter was not attentive, they should be well versed with the menu especially on the main course. Did not asked how our steak should be cooked. We had to tell that one medium rare (pepper crusted steak) and one well done (grilled sirloin steak), and both came out medium rare. Server also did not know what dishes that was served (probably some part time school leavers hire). Our lamb short-loin order was left out but the waiter did apologised. There was no tabasco but given chilli sauce instead.

Pros: Reasonable price for the food but high price on the drinks. Pepper crusted steak was delicious. Clean washroom, cosy environment, a good place to relax yet ideal to have lunch with formal or casual...
