The Rainbow Garden is a mere pass through neighbourhood, but little did I know, it also held a hidden gem of a restaurant. Tucked away in an unexpected corner, the simple Chinese-style cuisine was a delight to my senses. The flavors were well balanced, and each dish had delicate taste and a gentle sauce that left me craving for more. However, my joy was short-lived as I discovered the "mixed vegetable" dish contained pork - a dish I could not consume.
To add salt to my wound, they did not accept bookings for tables with less than four people. Despite being just the three of us, we had no choice but to wait by the walkway for a table to free up. It didn't help that the large tables inside were glaringly empty. It almost seemed as though they held a prejudice to provide better service to larger groups. I felt personally offended, but I couldn't help admiring the way the dimly lit restaurant worked like a well-oiled machine.
There was an unspoken mystery about the staff - their quick turnarounds and well-practiced dance between the tables enhanced my overall experience. Nonetheless, I couldn't shake off the feeling of being unfairly treated. Was I wrong to expect fairness from a place of service, or was there more to the story than meets the eye? Kiat Lee Restaurant in the Rainbow Garden may have been a secret destination, but it held secrets within that still...
Read moreWe decided to have a gathering here with family and friends as the food here is very good. We booked 5 tables (50 people) and expected these tables to be ready for when we arrived however the staff decided to continue using these tables instead of reserving them all together for our arrival. This meant we had to wait for the people on the tables occupied to finish before we could seat our guests. I appreciate this is not a formal restaurant however some common sense was needed to be applied here so that customers who have made a booking are not standing waiting to be seated. Another issue was that they did not think to group the 5 tables we reserved together so we had 10 guests sat on the other side of the room. Serving drinks and collecting empty dishes was also something staff were incapable of doing . This is basic service which staff did not think to do. Maybe they are not used to this many people in one booking but it's not an excuse and it's something they need to prepare for in future. As I said the food here is very good which is why we came back 3 years later. There is a lot of room for improvement though when it comes to...

On weekends, they have droves of customers dining in and doin takeouts simultaneously so it's not a shocker that some orders inevitably slip thru the cracks. Apparently it's not as crowded so food arrives faster on weekdays.
Go figure la cz le restaurant itself is oppositely-facing of terrace housings in its vicinity. They specialize in main dishes catering to families and larger numbers of peeps and dun rly have signature single-meal dishes.
Cudnt even request my tomyam meehoon to be switched to kuey teow cause apparently the chef's too tied up w orders that they want orders to be standardized. So if tomyam then all meehoon and no requesting for lesser/more portions for noodles etc.
The udang ish so fresh, crunchy...
