Read moreGemas Road Brothers may draw crowds, but sadly, the buzz doesn’t match the quality. Despite the full house, my experience was nothing short of disappointing. The menu offers various breakfast sets—roti canai with chicken curry, beef, lamb, soft-boiled eggs, and drinks—but the execution falls flat.
I ordered the roti canai set, expecting a hearty Malaysian breakfast. Instead, I was served what might be the worst roti canai I’ve ever had in Penang. The roti was cold, stiff, and lacked any flakiness or aroma. To make matters worse, the curry sauce was also cold and bland, lacking any punch or spice. The only saving grace was the fried egg, which was decently cooked.
The atmosphere didn’t help either. The dining area was chaotic, with staff constantly shouting and yelling orders, making it uncomfortable to sit and enjoy a meal. Adding to the frustration, the food wasn’t cheap, making the experience feel even more disappointing.
While the restaurant does offer a paid parking lot conveniently located across the street, that’s hardly enough to justify a visit. Overall, this is not a place I’d return to or recommend. A loud, underwhelming breakfast with little...
Read moreIn my honest opinion, I think this kind of roti canai is overrated be it Transfer Road or Gemas. If you’re not someone who likes kuah banjir on your roti canai, then this is not for you. Muak sikit.
This is my first time trying and I think this is the last time as well because I’m not a fan of roti canai kuah banjir like this. For someone who likes this kind of roti canai, then you should definitely go.
The sauce is quite spicy. We’ve ordered 2 Daging & 1 Kambing. I had the lamb and it was nice.
One of the worker who served the food was also quite unhygienic because he scooped the fried egg and pickled onion onto the bread using his bare hand instead of using a spatula. 😓
If this is non-COVID era, I would not mind that much. I’ve eaten foods scooped using bare hand in another country before but this is Msia and also during COVID era. So I think they should take extra precaution on hygiene.
Update: I’ve read somewhere here that you can request for kuah asing (sauce served separately from the bread). We didn’t know so may be if I decided to come again in the future, I would def request...
