This place should be a must-visit—a lively tribute to Malaysia’s greatest entertainer. Instead, it’s a bit of a letdown, saved only by nostalgia and the fact that it’s free.

First, the good: the house itself is a well-preserved slice of old Malaya. A replica of where the man was born, it’s filled with artefacts—some original, some not. Walk barefoot across the creaky wooden floors, peek into the modest bedroom, the kitchen with its vintage utensils. For those who grew up on his films and songs, there’s a quiet thrill in standing where he once did.

Now, the bad. Expect to finish the whole tour in under an hour. Parking is a nightmare: narrow roads, limited spaces. There’s nothing to take home except blurry phone pics. No DVDs, no music, no souvenir shop, no café—just a dusty display case of missed opportunities.

But if you love P. Ramlee, you’ll shrug and go anyway. Just don’t expect a world-class museum—expect a time capsule that’s half-forgotten, much like how Malaysia treats its...

Highly recommended for fans of P. Ramlee, Malaysian cinema buffs, or anyone curious about local cultural history. It offers an intimate atmosphere and a curated journey through the life of a national icon. If time is limited, it’s a meaningful stop you can easily fit into a half-day itinerary in Penang.

The building is the restored wooden kampung house where P. Ramlee was born in 1926, now lovingly maintained by the National Archives .

Though he didn't live there permanently, the house retains an authentic historical feel—nipah thatched roof, polished timber floors and original rooms like the living room, kitchen, bedroom, and even his bicycle and sampan .

Free entry, open Tues–Sun (~9 am–5 pm; Fri brief closure 12–3 pm; closed Mondays unless public holiday) .

Most visitors spend 30–60 minutes exploring .

Small in size—can be fully explored in ~30 minutes if you're just browsing.

Minimal interactive elements; suggestions include guided tours or workshops to boost...

It was an amazing trip to Penang with my family this year 2024 & getting the chance to visit this awesome museum of the late Allahyarham Tan Sri P.Ramlee was a feeling full of joy.🥹 I have to thank one of the security guy who was in charge of that place for telling us all the stories about Tan Sri P.Ramlee. I must say he got all the knowledges & infos well.Well done,he is indeed a true fans of arwah.❤️ I am a person who loves history and after knowing so much about how he lead his life back then i came to realized we lost a precious gem.🥺 Yes it do saddened me. All about his true life experiences especially in most of his movies everything is true,it does happen in reality. Well, there is always a blessing to everything. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. May Allah forgive him, raise his rank among those who are guided and take care of those he leaves behind.💐 #18thNovember2024 #FamilyVacay🧳 #3rdBorn16thBirthday.🍰
