Came here for CNY reunion dinner on Friday, 9 Feb, around 5.45pm. The dinner was booked by a relative so we had no expectations before arriving. The aircon was not even turned on yet, so the whole place was stuffy.
We waited for a while before the server came with our lo hei; actually just the condiments/sauces because the lo hei dish was already on every table. I was surprised that there was NO FISH in the lo hei. Was it supposed to be vegetarian. What was even more shocking was that the dish was mostly just shredded carrots! There was hardly any other ingredients in the lo hei. I regret forgetting to take photos as evidence 😔
The next few dishes were forgettable. The only nicer dish was the roasted suckling pig. For a dinner that cost over RM1,000, we got only HALF a small suckling pig. It was not enough for all 10 of us at the table, so all 6 adults ate only 1 piece each and the children ate the rest. Other than that, the fish maw soup was watery and sourish tasting, not in an appetising way; the abalone and dried abalone dish with lettuce and fa cai was ok but the oysters were over cooked and powdery, hardly edible; the lotus leaf rice had no leaf and was very bland 😂; the steamed sea bream was over cooked and slightly rubbery 😭.
I can't decide if the lo hei or the dessert was the worst dish of the night. The dessert was supposedly cheng tng, but it's hard to tell as I didn't dare to taste it. It came in small plastic tubs and looked like lab samples! Each was only half-filled with a brownish liquid and bits of stuff floating at the bottom. My (brave) family members who tried it said it tasted like apple juice with jelly. My hubby had a tub that seemed to have been diluted with water, presumably because they ran out of the liquid and had to top up. It was just horrible!
We understand that the restaurant may have difficulty cooking all the dishes due to reduced manpower and resources, but it's no excuse since they have already accepted payment from customers! If they cannot deliver, they should turn away customers or provide alternatives. It's not ethical to accept payment and provide sub-par food on such a celebratory occasion. The restaurant was packed, whole management went haywire, food was serve so slow. Every dish arrived after 10-15 mins. Some dishes didn't even arrive and we had to cancel it. It was like a scam.
