Curry Mee (Small) = RM8.50 1 Otak Otak = RM1.30 per Piece No Service Charge
Apparently this place is so Famous, some people even proclaim this to be the Best Curry Mee in Taman Perling or even the Whole of JB!
This is a Large Eatery. The Owners are a Friendly but Shy Middle Aged Chinese Couple. There was a Staff grilling some Otak Otak outside the Entrance and it smelt very nice. It took 2 Mins for their Curry Mee to be served up, and 4 Mins for the Otak. Everything was up within 4 Mins.
1 Otak Otak = RM1.30 per Piece
The Otak is not a Big Piece. Appearance looks Dry on the Outside, but the Inner Filling Meat is Juicy Hot. The Fish Paste is not Overpowering and there is a Lingering Taste of Turmeric that permeates the Whole Thing. Has a Slightly Elevated Level of Spiciness but nothing that will bite your Tongue. Acceptable Tasting Otak but nothing really Mind-Blowing tbh.
Curry Mee (Small) = RM8.50
You can either order Noodles or Rice to go with the Curry. I chose Noodles for my Carb. The Type of Gravy they serve for this is Chinese-Styled Chicken Curry. Super Thick Gao Gao Gritty Type and Not Overly Spicy.
This is the First Curry Mee in JB that I've encountered that uses this type of Curry Gravy because most others are just Variations of Laksa. Really taste like Grandma's Chicken Curry. So Thick, Rich and Creamy with a Nice Power Saltiness to it that never overstays its Welcome.
Even for the Small that I ordered, there are 4 Big Solid Pieces of Chicken Meats of Various Bone-In Thick Cuts. Big and Meaty, Breast Meat was Not Dry and Nice to Chew. Thigh and Drummy were Soft and Tender. Amount of Meat is Very Acceptable for the Price. 口口有肉. 😋 And they soaked up that Beautiful Curry so well.
There is also Half a Potato and its Creamy Melt in Mouth Smooth. 1 Big Taupok cut into 2 Pieces they work well like a Sponge to Soak up all that Curry. Yellow Noodles are used and while they're most likely from a Package, not Homemade, the Amount of Noodles felt Generous and Filling for the Price.
The Soul of the Dish is definitely their Beautiful Curry. That said, because this Curry is the Super Thick Gao Gao type, ordering Rice would probably pair better with it. Both Rice and Noodles pair Well with this Curry. Its just what type of Carbs you prefer only.
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At RM1.30 (S$0.40) for 1 Otak Otak, this was a Reasonable Price to pay for what it is. Its Decent and Acceptable as an Otak but I thought it was Nothing Really Special. Eating this with Curry was alright, it didn't improve or worsen the taste. If you feel like adding it as a Side Dish, sure why not.
At RM8.50 (S$2.60) for the Curry Mee, this was Absolutely Worth the Money for sure! The Quality of Curry is exactly the type that I loved most. So Thick, Gao Gao and Creamy. THIS is how I imagined Malaysia Curry Mee to actually taste like when I first heard of it, instead of the Mostly Laksa Variation around.
Most Surprised with how Generous they are with Chicken Pieces even for the Small that I ordered. They were Big, Fat, Meaty and Juicy and paired perfectly with the Curry.
Everything else also worked Very Well and Nothing Clashed. This was a Very Satisfying and Filling Meal. I was so happy with the Meal, I even went up to the Owners and gave them a Thumbs Up. They appreciated the Gesture.
Ultimately is this the Best Curry Mee in all of Taman Perling or even the Whole of JB?
I haven't eaten enough Curry Mee in JB so I can't really say, but this one sure comes VERY CLOSE! If you enjoy Chinese-Styled of Thick Thick Gao Gao Chicken Curry cooked like Grandma's Style you will definitely enjoy this one. Both Noodles and Rice work, but I'll have to lean closer to Rice for this one because of how Thick this Curry was.
Really Friendly Owners and Comfortable Environment, I have absolutely no issues giving this Amazing Curry Mee/Rice my Highest Top Score. Highly Recommended!

Read moreThey started probably more than 20 years ago at a portable stall at the old half of Taman Perling. I was not a fan of her curry noodle when I was younger. The curry was diluted and the chicken portion was very small. I think they have improved a lot in the past decade, I am really impressed by their think curry gravy and tender chicken meat now. They also offer good prawn noodle and lomee. You will be disappointed if you are looking for KL style curry noddle or Penang style prawn noodle here because they are the...

For non-natives like me, you will take a while to find this local gathering place famous for its Curry Noodle - a very distinctive meal of yellow noodles, potatoes, generous portions of curry chicken and fried soya-puffs.
The gravy is thicken and the Curry carries a nice balance of Indian and Chinese flavor. If you are ever in this part of town (Or nearer to Nusa Indah), this...
