I've been here thrice a year apart from each visit and each visit has left a different taste, although that taste leaves a lot to be desired on every subsequent visit. The food served is indeed authentic nyoya cooking, certain dishes which are rarely found out in the open market due to its complex nature of culinary execution. Although it does present a nostalgic taste, it seems that that would be the only redeeming quality of this establishment. On food quality, it is inconsistent in terms of serving size and taste. I have tried more than half of what they have had to offer since my company does dine in a group, therefore it would be most adequate for me to evaluate in all fairness. Dishes which are supposed to come out hot are presented otherwise, what looks on the outside does not appeal to whet the average person's appetite. Most dishes are decent at best, if not underwhelming. Another factor to add is the same excuse used when enquired about the irregularities in service, that the food and service is as such due to the massive load of customers during meal times which I find highly sceptical and suspicious since they are primarily servicing only dinner time in the evening. The one that takes the unsavoury cake is the dish I had on my most recent visit, the candlenut prawns which has left an extremely bad impression which will probably make this my last visit to this restaurant. Never in my life have I been able to find two most unacceptable states of a hot plate in cooking on the same plate and raw meat being overcooked and undercooked, and seafood at that! I cannot imagine what would have happened if anyone else had half a raw prawn and if it were tainted, on top of also having overcooked prawns! It also seems that the chef who'd prepared this dish did not understand even the basic point of cutting the prawn in half when the finished product still clearly not deveined on all of the prawns. What's then to say about the cook's personal hygiene in the kitchen? The only apology when presented to the owner, that was given was the same excuse, that quality was not maintained due to a high load of customers. The nonchalant attitude presented by the owner of the restaurant is tantamount to my overall experience in this restaurant. I can safely conclude in my most humble opinion, that the food indeed is authentic nyonya cuisine, but whether it is of your money's worth is most likely questionable considering the same attitude throughout the years displayed by the owners and cooks of this establishment. I find it amusing that it has even lasted this long considering there are better alternatives five minutes down the road. Good concept,...
Read moreHad a fantastic lunch at this Nonya restaurant! First time. We ordered the beef rendang, and it was absolutely deliciousâthe meat was incredibly tender, and the coconut milk added a beautifully fragrant richness. It had that authentic taste we were hoping for.
We also tried the stingray, which came with ladyfinger and brinjal as side items. Everything was cooked to perfectionânot too soft, not too hardâjust the right texture to complement the flavors. The portion sizes here are very generous; we were just two people, but it easily felt like a meal for 3-4!
The only dish that didnât quite hit the mark for us was the cincalok omeletteâit was decent, but we felt a standard omelette might have been a better choice.
For dessert, we had durian cendol and regular cendol. The bowls were quite small, but the flavors were solid. Personally, I enjoyed the classic version, but my partner felt the durian cendol completely outshined the originalâso if youâre a durian lover, itâs a must-try!
Beyond the great food, the service was excellent. The female owner was very polite, and even the other servers were professional and attentive. They refilled our drinks multiple times without us having to ask, which was a nice touch.
Overall, a great spot for authentic Nonya cuisine with generous portions, bold flavors, and warm hospitality. Would definitely return for the rendang...
Read moreBest Nyona Cuisine in JB in my opinion. We returned to the restaurant again few days ago. We ordered Buah Keluak (candlenut) Chicken, Fried Stingray with Sambal (with brinjal & okra), salted vegetable duck soup, fried sweet potato leaves, spring rolls (Ngor Hiang), 2 Nasi Kunyit, sour plum drink, Lemon grass drink and 2 Chendol with Durian. Total cost about RM116.50. We over ordered and couldnât finish, but they can help to âtabaoâ (takeaway) the unfinished food. Buah Keluak Chicken is a must try, other recommended dishes include the prawn or squid sambal with petai, chicken/ beef rendang etc. Lastly, make sure you reserve your stomach for dessert because the Chendol with Durian is to die for. The reason I give 4 star out of 5 because the staff are generally inexperienced and unsure what to do. Hence, there is room for improvement in term of service although we understand that this is a family run business. Having said that, we are not bothered by their less than ideal service. Otherwise, it would be 5 out of 5 for food only. BTW, just learn that they serve breakfast with set menu too. Will return to try...
