Finally visited this humble little café we’ve been passing by for years – Toast n Toast, Taman Perling.
We ordered quite a spread: kaya butter toast, American breakfast chicken slice set, mee siam with otak, nasi lemak with fried chicken, and a glass of kopi C kosong.
The environment is comfortable, with lighting that’s not too bright yet bright enough to see clearly. It feels warm and welcoming. The toilet was a pleasant surprise – bright, clean, and seemingly newly renovated, with a design that contrasts with the simple exterior.
A thoughtful touch for families: there are books and colouring materials available. My son happily spent his time drawing while we waited for the food.
It’s clear that bread is one of their specialties. The kaya butter toast was perfectly crispy, with pandan kaya that’s fragrant and flavourful. The spread was well-balanced – neither too much nor too little – making each bite delightful.
The kopi C kosong, however, was underwhelming. It could have been richer to match the otherwise great breakfast experience, and I hope they improve on this.
The American breakfast chicken slice set came with a slice of toast and butter, baked beans, chicken ham, and an egg. The chicken ham stood out – less salty than usual and seemingly a healthier choice.
The mee siam with otak was another highlight. The mee siam was dry yet full of flavour, and the otak was a decent fish-based version. But the real star was the sambal – more on that later.
The nasi lemak with fried chicken felt like it was made with heart. The rice was the dry, fluffy type, each grain distinct and flavourful – like a homecooked version made with love. The ikan bilis and peanuts were crispy, salty, and delicious. The fried chicken looked dry at first glance but was incredibly tender inside, with a crisp exterior that locked in the juiciness.
And then, the sambal – truly the soul of the meal. Not too spicy, not too sweet, with a hint of onion fibres that added texture. It elevated both the mee siam and the nasi lemak, and I even spread it on my toast so none of it would go to waste.
Overall: I’ll definitely be back for their toast, and I’m keen to try their Western dishes next time. Toast n Toast might not shout for attention from the outside, but it’s a gem...
Read moreIm a regular customer of yr establishment at tmn perling for abt a year now and my experience today was the worst ever, i ordered a bfast set and requested the eggs to be changed to scramble eggs, and was told ok, when the food arrived the eggs were sunny side up, i called the staff and requested to change and the eggs were then brought out as well done...i called the staff again and this time a malay girl approached, now this is the 1st time i have seen this girl..she took back the eggs and to my horror she brought our crushed boiled eggs..i had enought and brought the food to the counter requesting to cxl and she was so adamant that scramble eggs is boiled eggs crushed (hancur)...I mean i understand if u have no standards but not being able to understand basic knowledge abt eggs , cmon..dont u guys train yr staff?? U have been around since 2004 but yr establishment here seems to be an amatuer concept in the food bussiness..Anyway the malay girl with a 3rd class mentality immediately took away the eggs passed on to the kitchen and shouted in malay "Oi korang makan lah makanan ni, diaorg (customer) taknak pulak. Wow, i mean talk abt a system, shouldnt u guys hv 1 by now..? Food cost, inventory? She then proceeded to give us the bill while singing with a sacarstic attitude w/o being apologetic, Her face was so annoying that i had to leave while my wife waited to settle the bill in order not to say something i might regret..Me and my wife are in the service/fnb industry and in terms of proffesionalism this girl should not be anywhere near a service industry...She alone can bring down a bussiness with the rude/sacarstic attitude she posseses...The foreigner staff were much more polite...So to the owners be wary if u intend to survive another 10 years in this industry at this day and age where customer service is a top prority...Even if yr food is good but this will be my last visit to yr estasblishment...remember yr competition is everywhere now so buck up or...
Read moreHonestly the worst service i’ve ever received. Went there for morning breakfast but saw couple of tables not cleaned and full of dirty dishes. When we reached there, the staff didnt even made an effort to clean the tables so we’re left with no choice but to sit on a small table for a company of 4 people. Took long enough for the waiter to give us the menu and when she did, she just throw the menu rudely to us. And when i KINDLY asked for a certain dish on the menu, the waiter simply said NO without even making eye contact which i think was very rude for no reason. When paying for the food, she still didnt smile, didnt make any eye contact and even handed the receipts quickly with her fingers. Overall food was okay, but i personally think not worth my money for this kind of...
