Don't judge a food by its presentation, this saying could't be any more true for this restaurant!
Food might look plain and not tantalising but every bite makes you feel very homely. The 福州鱼丸was extremely juicy and QQ (bouncy), texture was just right and the "semi-bland" taste of the fish complements the flavourful 肉丸 (minced pork) inside, it was well marinated with spice and veggie. A must try!
The 福州肉丸was very good as well but nothing too outstanding. If it has water chestnut, it would taste even better (sort of like 狮子头).
The 福州红糟鸡 has a unique taste, definitely should order a plate as this is not a common dish elsewhere. It is one of the restaurant's signature and has a sweet taste. The main ingredient is fermented rice residue.
The last dish is one of my favourite, 铁板豆腐. A good portion of omelette (half cooked to perfection) at the base coated with eggy tofu and minced pork. The dish is on the saltier side so I would recommend eating this with rice or if you can request ask the kitchen for 少盐 (less salt) when you order it
Overall a nice restaurant that is inconspicuous but deserve your visit if you are in that area or travelling back to JB

Read moreThey open punctually at 12:30pm so if you arrive early at 12:15pm, the place will be shuttered, resembling some long forgotten Ah Pek shop. Just take a stroll and come back again. Voila, the vibes of the whole place brighten up immediately with shop opening. The place is clean - clean tables, clean cutlery, and most importantly, clean toilets. They have a toilet bowl so you need not squat (which might prove more challenging than expected to the muscle if you had just drove through an xhours-long traffic jam at the Causeway and another 1.5hour to Yong Peng). The food is so enticing I forgot to take pictures after the first dish. I understand that the culinary standards here have dropped, but with what they offer now, I do not see any significant difference. My favourite dish of the meal is the Red Rice Wine Chicken (which I obviously gobbled up before remembering that I forgot to take...
Read moreAlways passed by this restaurant while exiting Yong Peng but finally get to try this place today. It’s old school kopitiam style eating place that doesn’t really attract you to dine in but once you enter the restaurant you can feel the old school vibes. The wall is dotted with old time pictures of the owner with old time celebrities. The decor is old school but overall clean and spacious inside. Menu is simple but not much pictures but comprise mostly Hockchew specialities. So we ordered their most popular dishes - hockchew fried noodles, hockchew red wine chicken, & meat balls. All the dishes tasted good and we were impressed. Though the wait was longer than usual due to only one cook being the old owner who single handedly cooked all the dishes ! When nearing lunch hours the tables was almost filled up quickly. So best to go...
