I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock, and I must say it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. As soon as I approached the restaurant, I could tell that this was the go-to place for locals in search of delicious food. Despite the bustling crowd, we were promptly seated without any waiting time, a testament to the efficiency of the staff.
While a few members of the staff had limited English proficiency, they made up for it with their patience and willingness to explain and take note of our order. Their dedication to ensuring a seamless dining experience was commendable.
Now, let's talk about the food. We decided to indulge in some classic dishes, starting with the Bak Kut Teh. The moment the aromatic herbal soup arrived at our table, we were captivated by its enticing aroma. The meat and sauce were equally impressive, boasting rich flavors that satisfied our taste buds and left us craving for more. Each bite was a delightful experience, and it was clear that the chef had put considerable effort into perfecting the recipe.
We also ordered the tofu with minced meat, and it turned out to be a wise choice. The texture of the tofu was spot-on, and the accompanying sauce was simply divine. The flavors blended together harmoniously, creating a mouthwatering dish that left us thoroughly impressed.
However, the star of the meal was undoubtedly the steam fish. From the moment it arrived at our table, it was evident that the fish was incredibly fresh. Not only did it lack any fishy smell, but the tender flesh practically melted in our mouths. The combination of fried garlic and the accompanying sauce elevated the dish to new heights, providing a heavenly complement to the delicate texture of the fish.
After enjoying our delectable feast, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the prices at Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock were extremely affordable. Given the quality of the food, we felt that every penny was well worth it. The value for money aspect further enhanced our overall dining experience.
The only regret we had was that we were so enthralled by the dishes' appearance and our ravenous hunger that we completely forgot to take photographs. But rest assured, the dishes at Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock are as visually appealing as they are delicious.
In conclusion, my visit to Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock was a true delight. The bustling atmosphere, friendly and patient staff, and, most importantly, the outstanding flavors of the dishes left a lasting impression on me. This is a Famous Eatery here in Tampoi that although their 招牌 showcases their BKT, is more well-known for their Poached Fish. Their BKT interestingly has its fair share of Critics. Its a Really Big Eatery and there weren't much Customers as of 8.30am on a Friday Morning. Manned by Mostly Myanmar Folks, they are Polite and Friendly and there was even a Chap among them who could converse in Fluent Mandarin. Very Friendly Fellow.
How to Order your Food:
If you're ordering their Poached Fish, simply go up to the Staff near the Big Bucket of Fish and choose the Fish you want.
Once chosen, request to weigh the Fish and check the Price before confirming your choice.
If you're ordering BKT, just order normally by telling the Staff what you want.
It took 5 Mins for the BKT to be served up and 8 Mins for the Poached Fish. In total, it took 8 Mins for everything to be served up. Really fast. Poaching a Fish usually takes between 4-10 Mins, so this was a Nice Timing, although to be fair there weren't alot of Customers when I was there.
The Condiments available are pretty standard with what you'd normally get if you order BKT. A Typical Saltish Sweetish Garlicky Sauce. The Slightly Bigger Plate of Light Soy Sauce is heavily powered by Onion and Garlic with a Nice Sweetish Saltish hit.

Read moreWoke up with a hangover and wanted some herbal soup so we googled for good Bak Kut teh eateries nearby Bukit Indah. After much discussion, we decided on Kedai Bak Kut Teh which is actually around Tampoi area, about 15 mins drive from Bukit Indah. This eatery is a few stalls away from the corner Old Coffeeshop across a Mercedes Benz centre. There are 2 entrances to this stall and sitting is first come first served so if it is crowded, you need to spot or wait for a table to be empty. After you have a table, you go to the front cooking area to select the fish and veggie to order. Wait time for food is about 10-15mins. Our order as below:
Steamed grouper - the fish was fresh and steamed perfectly and bathed with soya sauce and garnished with fried garlic and spring onions. The flavour is similar to those served in restaurants and is really good. I guess they are famous for their steamed fish dishes.
Claypot Bak Kut teh - the portion was for 4 pax and there were a lot of ingredients. Pork ribs, liver, mushroom, tofu skin and soup could be replenished. There was a side of you tiao as well. The soup had a herbal taste and is not the peppery type. We added 2 bottles of chicken essence brought from home haha..
Minced meat tofu - nice and refreshing with the meat and sauce. Almost every table ordered.
Sambal belachan veg and minced meat veg - veggies fried well and still green and crunchy. I found the minced meat sauce abit sweet for my liking. I think can be ordered without the meat.
We were shocked when we paid for the bill as the price was …. (For you to find out 😄)
Overall, we found it to be good and will...
