Having my lunch just now at Taman Tasek Branch. Ordered Mongolian Beef as I'm craving it for so long. Imagine the beef marinated with soy sauce, oyster sauce and stir fried with spring onion and onion, sprinkled with sesame seeds, aduhh sedapnyaaa! Eat with white rice & sunny side egg, walaoweh!
Waiting for half an hour, ordered at 12.18pm and food sent to my table at 12.45pm. Unfortunately, I was so disappointed when it was delivered to my table. It’s not like the Mongolian Beef dish I had at another place or illustrated in their promotional photo.
The Mongolian dish I received was a beef fried with thick batter with dried chili and onion, sunny side egg, white rice and cucumber salad. I called the staff and ask if this is the right dish of Mongolian Beef, he said yes. I show him the illustrated photo in Me’nate FB, its totally different but he insists it is Mongolian Beef dish as prepared by the chef. He asks if I want to change the menu, I told him I want a Mongolian Beef dish as in the photo but he said it is the Mongolian Beef dish.
Okay. I hate to waste the food, maybe I will like it. But the craving to have the Mongolian Beef is so strong in me that I can’t take this fried beef after few bites. I try to finish the rice, eggs & salad at least, paid at the cashier and leave with the disappointment. And teary eye (dramatic huh but yeah I almost cry ☹).
The staff was so kind to ask if I want to change the dish, really appreciate it. They are excellent staff. It is not about change the dishes but it is the right food promoted and serve to customer. He even apologize few times as I told him I was disappointed with the food when make payment.
To be honest, Me’nate never disappoint me before. I always leave the restaurant with happy tummy and heart. But this time, I can’t keep it for myself. Maybe my understanding and experience eating Mongolian Beef dish is different from the chef at Me’nate, he might be more creative in cooking but I am sure the correct Mongolian Beef recipe is not like what I have today.
I still have my love for Me’nate, of course I will come again and again. My favorite dish is Mamamia Beef Carbonara, I think I should stick to this menu after this.
I’m not mad, just disappointed. I hope I will get to it the right Mongolian...
Read moreOkay, firstly, it wasn’t clear what was provided for the ‘steak meal’. We came with a thought that we will be ordering a steak at a fixed price with a choice of sides. Lo and behold, it was totally different. You have to go to this freezer to choose your cut and the price actually ranges from RM100-200+ for regular cuts. The sauce is either black pepper or garlic. After which, the meal comes with a side of mash potatoes, some veges and coleslaw, paired with free flow of drinks of sour plum or blackcurrant. Not saying its bad. Just to put it here for clarity for first timers patronising this place. Service was great. Atmosphere is just normal. Not too shabby and nothing grand too.
Now on to the food. The desert is a blondie essentially. We thought it’ll be a blondie but what came was a vanilla cake and 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream with roasted pecans. Honestly, the nicest part of this dish were the roasted pecans. The rest were normal. Calamari fritters were nice and crispy. Not the soggy type. Paired with a dipping sauce that elevates the taste. Now on to the steak. Sour plum drink was soooooo sweet. We could only drink a like 5 sips of it.
Both of us choose ribeye. One was requested for medium while the other medium rare. Medium came to us as medium well while medium rare came as medium. So, one strike already. Next the taste. Honestly, didn’t taste anything. Not to stroke my ego but I’ve cooked steak countless times using different cuts of meat and it tasted way better. The mashed potatoes and sides were normal. Nothing to boast about. Same with the black pepper sauce
All in all, for RM280 including service and taxes, not worth it in my opinion. Disappointed with the steak since that is the main dish there. Won’t be...
