Being at Tamarind Square Cyberjaya, you're spoiled for choice on where to dine as there are so many restaurants and cafés. The Tepen is on of many restaurants there.
The decor is minimalistic with empty barrel drums and a cushion as stools and the odd chairs and other combination.
Arrived for lunch on a public holiday and the nasi lemak is gone. Must be a favorite in the morning and they don't make much of it. As long as its finished, that's it, done for the day. So ordered the salted egg soft shell crab creamy spaghetti and nasi buluh with fried chicken.
The salted egg soft shell crab spaghetti was good. The consistency was just nice and not too creamy. It had a good serving of fried calamari as well to complement the soft shell crab with a sprinkle of curry leaves and supposedly cili padi but I didn't detect any. Portion is good for 2 people if you're a moderate or light eater. Taste wise it was well balanced. The creamy salted egg sauce, the calamari and soft shell crab and spaghetti all came together well. I liked it.
Can't say the same for rice bamboo with fried chicken. The steam white rice was served wrapped in banana leaf. I don't think it was steamed in the bamboo but rather cooked rice was placed in the bamboo. There's nothing in the rice unlike Restoran Nasi Bakar Sunan Darjat where there's some side dishes in it.
The fried chicken is similar to ayam penyet fried chicken accompanied with fried tempe, cucumber and malinja crackers. There is the ayam penyet type sambal and curry sort of gravy but it was really bland bordering to tasteless.
I will not order this again. I think the fusion dishes and nasi lemak...
Read moreI went there the first time in October 2021 with a few friends. It was also with an intention to meet the owner whom i adore so much during my teenage years - Azlina TS Awang Had😍 however she was away traveling. The restaurant were decorated very nice, neat and tidy. We were warmly greeted and be seated opposite the cake section which is next to the cashier. Order were made via apps and make payment by the counter with variety payment mode made available. I had salmon laksa and it was super! It's definitely a must try dish. A week later, when most of selangor state were having water disruption, i took my family to stay in cyberjaya. I then brought them to the restaurant to let them taste the food plus my baby sister is TS PRamlee one of a million's fan. The staff at Tepen recognised me and even noticed my new hair cut. Yes i had a new one different than the first time i went there! My mom and elder sister loves the food serves in a tiffin. My baby sister loves the ambience she almost joget to the bila larut malam song. My nieces enjoyed the pasta and cakes. Overall its a nice place to hang out with family or friends. I'll definitely go back there for that bowl of laksa and who knows i get to meet...
Read moreWent here about a month ago, 1st time. There was a hair in the cendawan goreng we ordered. It tasted good until we found the hair. The waiter didn't take the bowl away after we informed him of it. Just left it there. We had to call him back to ask what we can have instead but their menu was limited (most items out of stock, maybe because we went at tea time). They offered us either our money back or a replacement which was appreciated. Our only option was cake as the only other food item was cendawan goreng. But we couldn't choose the cake. They gave us the closest cake in price to the cendawan goreng. Service could be better. Seemed to be a lack of communication/understanding between us and the waiters, don't know why as we spoke both BM and Eng depending on what the waiter seemed ok with. Wish i took pictures but I didn't. Nice atmosphere though and the waiters seemed friendly enough. Will not go again though. 2 stars because they looked like they tried, didn't have enough of an average impression for an average of 3 stars...
