Portion sizes at Viet Pho Cafe in Batu 11 Cheras are large and meant for sharing, so do be warned not to over order.
The food was generally pretty authentic and flavourful. The Goi Cuon or Prawn Spring Roll was fresh, large and satisfying. It came with 2 dipping sauces - a fish sauce with chilli and a thick peanut sauce. Both added different dimensions to the spring rolls. The prawn inside the roll was large, commensurate with the price of the dish. This is Highly Recommended.
Their signature Stone Pot Beef Noodles had beef broth served in a piping hot stone bowl. Two types of beef are served on the side - one is raw and the other is cooked. You can choose to swish the raw beef in the broth to cook it to your desired level. The broth itself was rich and flavourful. The rice noodles were the flat rice noodles similar to kway teow. A selection of herbs and vegetables are provided as well including onions, bean sprouts, coriander, sawtooth coriander and mint. You can add (or omit) any of these. Overall this is worthy of being their signature dish and it gets a Highly Recommended as well.
Stir Fried Beef with Rice was flavourful and the beef was tender and not overcooked. The portion of stir fried beef with green and red peppers was quite generous too. This is pretty good.
The Seafood Salad came on a huge plate with lots of prawn, squid, crunchy vegetables and some pickled vegetables as well. Top these on the prawn crackers provided and add some of the sweet chilli dip and these make for a very light and refreshing salad. This is Highly Recommended.
Likewise the Banh Xeo or Crispy Pancake arrived on such a huge plate that looked somewhat intimidating. There was a huge amount of shredded chicken and vegetables in the pancake along with a plate of salad, mint and dipping sauce on the side. The way to eat this is actually to take a piece of the pancake, wrap it in the salad leaf, add mint or vegetables, dip it in the sauce and enjoy. This might be even better than the one I had in Saigon and is Recommended.
Their Avocado Shake was thick and creamy as it should be. This gets a Recommended as well.
Do try their Bahn Flan which is a sweet creamy custard drenched in a shot of unsweetened coffee. You have to take the custard with the coffee to enjoy the sweet and bitter flavours together. This is quite unique and is Recommended too.
Prices are on the high side but you get very large portions, so do be...
Read moreFirst of all the food was alright, not something good will makes you want to come back or bad, you will have to scan QR code for the menu and write your order code on a piece of board. The waiter took our order board but somehow inputted wrong order. We only get to know until the dish was served. To save all the trouble we told the waitress we will take it and she just have to change our order so it would reflected in our bill. We ordered shrimp as well and later on ask if we could have the skin removed. We asked politely and the boss told us they do not have such services, because if there are a lot of customers and each table ask for this, they would be super busy. He insisted they didn’t have service charge so we shouldn’t even ask for it. Anyhow at the time the whole restaurant was only occupied with 2 tables and the kind of services we are getting was quite unspeakable. Can’t imagine how bad it could be if we went at peak hour. When finally we asked for bill to check out, I realised that the wrong order is not amended and I informed the boss, yet he questioned me on why I didn’t ask them to change it. I told him I have informed the waitress to do so, but I think she didn’t do it. Somehow he was angry and informed me he will not charge me for the dish but we should never come to his restaurant again. He acted like he is doing me a huge favour but in fact I am paying for my food with my money. It would definitely be a no no to visit this...
