If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant with a nice ambience, this is not the place for you. While it is comfortable with air conditioning, the decor is non-existent. There are boxes stacked everywhere in every nook and you see workers sorting and cleaning vegetables out in the open.
However, Xiang Mun more than makes up for it with great food at very reasonable prices. We came here as a party of 7 and we ordered a good spread of dishes with meat, seafood and vegetables.
One of their signature dishes is chicken rice. However this is not the usual chicken rice that both you and I know. Firstly, the steamed kampong chicken comes mixed with the rice in a large clay pot. The rice is not the usual chicken rice either as it's coated with some kind of herbal sauce. For the pork lard lovers, you'll be happy to know that the dish is topped with a liberal sprinkling of the forbidden stuff.
The portion we ordered is for 4 people and it comes with half a chicken but the rice portion is huge. We originally planned to order some extra white rice since there were 7 of us but in the end we didn't. In fact, there were leftovers that we decided to pack home.
The other meat dish we ordered was the tong pao pork belly. The meat was really soft but still had enough texture to chew on.
For seafood, we had crispy fried sotong and toman fish slice with ginger and scallions. The cuttle fish was quite crispy although a bit on the sweet side. Both portions were also on the generous side.
For greens, we had a big plate of stir fried baby french beans.
The entire meal came up to just under RM180 which I think is very reasonable. Food was good, portions were generous and service was fast although the restaurant was full on a...

One of the standout features at Xiang Mun is the ample serving size. Be mindful of what you order, as the portions are substantial and can easily satisfy even the heartiest appetites. Whether you're dining solo or with a group, you're likely to leave with a full stomach.
The quality of the seafood is particularly noteworthy. The freshness of the fish shines through in every bite, and the soup is a comforting companion to your meal. If you're a fan of salted egg dishes, the sotong salted egg is a must-try, characterized by its freshness and the delightful combination of flavors.
