Came here after seeing the glowing reviews, some even said it was ‘Michelin standard’. I am sorry but those people who have left 5star reviews must not have much experience with fine dining and what it entails.
The only Michelin standard is the price tag and atmosphere of the restaurant (great views and interior design). The dishes were poorly put together and seasoning was a hit and miss. I do not think the Chef taste checks every dish before sending it out of the kitchen.
I felt that there were no thought to the ingredients. The 56hr Octopus was served with an overly salty frozen mustard ice cream that overpowered the dish. Octopus was sliced so thin there was no bite to it. Lobster bisque was extremely salty like thickened seawater. I could not finish it as it was insanely salty on the palate. Smoked char and white asparagus was bland and not seasoned. Asparagus was tough. Red Snapper Asam Pedas Risotto was bland and the Risotto was undercooked, the rice grains were hard and powdery. When we feedback the Chef said it was their traditional way to cook Risotto. Come on, there is a marked difference in Al Dente and undercooked Risotto which you should be nailing at this pricepoint. Wagyu is always an exciting maincourse at any fine dining meal. The “Wagyu Tenderloin” served here has me doubting its authenticity. Grey, dry and lean, there was no sear or marbling that you would expect from a Wagyu cut. I have had homecooked supermarket steaks with a better sear.
The only saving grace is the staff who were super polite and trying their best.
Overall, I would only return for the cocktail bar and amazing views. I will not recommend the food. The cost was...

We visited many fine dining restaurants around the world including Michelin rated star restaurants before. So you know expect a certain standard or food and service.
I’m very sad to report that the Kayuputi Restaurant can keep up with other fine dining restaurants on the ambiance and the price tag ONLY!
I don’t mean to be rude or insult anyone but the food inkl. wine pairing was so bland that I don’t even remember what we had. Wagyu which is supposed to be epic came out very unimpressive and dense.
The service is so far away from what you expect and receive at other restaurants selling fine dining that in the western world they this restaurant would go out of business within a short period of time.
Staff cannot relate to the food they’re serving and are absolutely clueless about wine.
To make matters worse the staff was focused on selling us water and checking whether they can serve the next course but wouldn’t clear used wine glasses or offer a fill up. For a 600+ USD dinner in Malaysia that’s an insult!
I wish I could ask for a refund. First...

Kayu Puti is a must - Chef Gaetan genius' playground. Using local herbs and spices, he infuses each dish with his imagination, skillfully reinventing it.
