After a very, very expensive yet miserable dinner (that consisted of a chain of ‘mishaps’ with the kitchen forgetting 3 of our orders, the washbasins running out of water rounded of by terrible service) at the Fish Farm restaurant in Kuah the day before, I got our taxi driver to take us to this restaurant for lunch.
What an incredibly great eating experience !
I was on the prowl for Ikan bakar and I had found the El Dorado of the genre!!!
This no frills restaurant is the ultimate address for authentic Ikan bakar (grilled fish) that Malaysians are partial to. There was a Bentley in the parking lot!
The fish served are collected from the boats that dock at the fisheries jetty (100 yards from the restaurant) with the morning catch. Yes, they are thaaat fresh.
Our order of 2 grilled sea bass in sweet and hot sauce, two hard grilled snappers, 2 orders of prawns in coconut milk sauce, 2 orders of large chili crabs, 2 prawn fried rice, 3 plain white rice, 2 kai lan in oyster sauce, 1 mixed veggies, 1 fresh salad and sodas for 9 cost us an unbelievable grand total of Malaysian Ringgit.450.00!!!!!
In 20 years of visiting Malaysia, this was my standout best meal.
I recommend it to all fish lovers...
