OK...qualifier here. The 5-star rating is based solely only on one single dish - the assam prawns. Asked locals where I can find the best assam prawns in town and I was directed to this nondescript eatery. Place is not much to sing about, hence the 2* atmosphere for being cooling and airy. But what told me that I have hit the jackpot is that every single table of diners had the assam prawns dish.
Service was warm, as to be expected from SP-ians. Always welcoming and polite.
The assam prawns... mind blowing! Huge palm-sized prawn, fresh, and well marinated and coated in tamarind sauce and sugar. Read moreI only know about this restaurant from my husband who grew up in Alor Setar and used to eat here with his family before they moved. Then when they moved, he tried to find it for 15 years!
Finally found it when we asked a friend who grew up in SP (she didn't know) who asked her father. We were glad to finally find this place! Definitely a well-kept secret by old-timers.
So basically, we had the dish my husband has been raving about: the Assam prawns - large prawns cooked in sticky Assam sauce - and they were awesome. Husband says it's exactly as he remembered.
