I decided to try 5000 Years based on positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The food quality, portion sizes, and overall dining atmosphere did not meet expectations.
Ambience
The music was excessively loud—so much so that it was hard to hold a conversation. It made the dining experience uncomfortable rather than enjoyable.
Dishes Ordered
Scallops with Vegetables (RM78) • The scallops were decent, but the portion was quite small for the price. • Nothing particularly memorable about the dish.
Oysters with Vegetables (RM58) • This dish was a major letdown, a scrimmage of poorly executed flavors. • The oysters had an unpleasant, powdery texture—an absolute sacrilege to seafood. • They were dry and lacked sufficient sauce. • The portion size was meagre, disappointingly small.
Lap Mei Fan (RM58) • The rice and meat were served separately, which felt unusual. • It lacked the signature wok hei (charred aroma) that makes this dish stand out. • Portion size was reasonable, but the flavor was underwhelming.
Final Thoughts
For the price, the food quality and portion sizes were disappointing. The oysters, in particular, were poorly executed. The atmosphere also made it an unpleasant dining experience. Given these factors, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant and certainly wouldn’t return.
The next day, I began experiencing mild food poisoning, likely caused by...
Read moreThe classic Chinese theme of this restaurant attracted us to hold our birthday dinner here. As we made prior reservations, they have given us a nice table right in front of the stage where a dancer performed traditional Chinese dance during dinner time and a local band performed live Chinese songs after 9pm. The menu wasn’t actually too extensive and really wasn’t very China although it gave us that impression when we walked in. There are the usual China favorites like mapo taufu, spicy chicken, sour vege fish, spicy cabbage etc. but it also has variety of typical local Chinese dish. There were hits & misses in the food. Some were good while some were just forgettable. Among the better dishes were the fried salted egg beans, garlic pork ribs, fried spicy cabbage, spicy chicken …… The not so nice dishes in my opinion were the sour vegetables fish soup which totally didn’t have that China taste. The roasted duck was rather bland too despite it being a pre ordered item. The mapo taufu didn’t had that China taste too but overall was ok for us. In conclusion, it’s a great place for celebration & gathering, nice ambience and not forgetting you get to dress up in old China costumes for photo shoots, but may not necessarily offers the best food around. It’s also not a place for China cuisine although the decor gives us that kind of impression. But food is ok and prices are reasonable. Still I...
Read moreMy family and I recently visited Five Thousand Years KL, and the experience was fantastic! The moment you walk in, you're transported into a beautifully decorated space that feels like stepping into ancient China. The traditional Chinese lanterns, the beautiful sakura tree, and elegant red and gold color scheme create an authentic and immersive atmosphere.
One of the most unique aspects of this restaurant is that they offer visitors the chance to wear Chinese costumes during the meal. It was a fun and memorable experience dressing up in traditional attire, which made the evening even more special. It’s a great touch for anyone looking to take pictures and fully embrace the theme.
As for the food, it was quite decent. We have tried their sweet and sour fish, salted egg vegetable, mapo tofu, braised pork and yam and roast chicken.
Overall, the combination of food and the unique cultural experience makes this place worth visiting. However, you will need to book in advance in...
