I purposely drove all the way here for their kopi
The power of social media 😅 when I saw the video circulating on the social media - I believed it was Facebook - about this salted Kopi, it intrigued me or should I say it excited me? Haven't tried savoury version of kopi before ma.
The other half didn't seem to be as enthusiastic as me, so I went Hans Solo mode one fine day.. driving all the way to Kepong Baru. Typical hawker style restaurant located at one corner, I was seated in no time after doing all the SOPs. I was seated at the back so I can see the boss himself in action.
◾salted Kopi - served in a tall glass where the froth filled the top and flowed down the accompanying small saucer plate below, it was a sight to behold when served. Took a sip and of course it was salty but not THAT salty la. The boss roast the coffee beans with salt to create this type of drink. It took a few sips to get used to it... Somehow I like it.
◾Special curry mee in claypot - tummy was drumming at the same time I so surveyed around to see what's good. Saw this curry mee stall and proceed to have a chat with the owner. He recommended his special claypot curry mee - where he beat the egg to mix with the curry broth under high fire to create the murkiness for the broth. There were cockles, pork skin so everything was good for me! The flavour also ngam me.
I will come again when I happen to be in Kepong next time. Reason to come? The salted Kopi definitely... Sometimes it's good to...
Read moreSummary - if you live nearby and want decent char koay teow, sure. Else don't bother.
Salted kopi, not bad but it's just kopi with salt, dunno what's so great about it. Didn't even bother to froth it up.
Roti bakar, okla looks like butter or at least buttercup, it's not margarine - but I like it already spread on bread. Now my hands are sticky. Tastes so so, not worth driving out for.
Kai see hor fun, OK only. Not even worth taking a picture.
Char koay teow was the saving grace. Tasted good, and moist while having wok hei. But this is a bit wet style la, if you like dry ckt then this isn't for you. One extra star given just for this. It's good ckt but let's be honest, you can find this everywhere in KL. Plus, the kakak cook damn slow.
I wanted to try the claypot curry mee but they were sold out. I guess maybe it's good? There is a second curry mee stall but looks normal af so I didn't bother.
It was 1pm and there were lots of empty tables around. This is just a normal hawker center now. Don't bother making a trip unless you happen to...
Read moreFirst time here. Tried the kai see ho fun, shredded chicken noodle. And the pan meen. Both are surprisingly good.
The soup of KSHF has the umami of prawn. Definitely one of the better KSHF around. Side order of chicken is also good. The chilli sauce that came with it is excellent.
Pan meen is of the flat hand torn type. Came with coriander which adds to the flavour. Tried it cos it looked like the most popular stall here. Verdict: everyone is right. Thumbs up! 👍
Service is exceptional too. Saw an elderly man in a walking still approaching a table with all stools. The server quickly brought a chair with a back rest without being asked to. This is top class service👏👏
Problem here is just the terrible parking especially early in...
