A&W Kepong — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

I had an interesting experience at this fast food chain today. A few weeks ago, I tried their double cheeseburger for the first time, and to my surprise, it tasted much better than the usual offering from that other well-known "M" brand. This was unexpected, as I typically visit this chain for their coney dogs, waffles, and root beer. So, I decided to return today.

After placing my order, I sat down to wait for my food, and that’s when things started to go downhill. First, a staff member approached me to inform me they had run out of burger buns and suggested I change my order. I was there specifically for the double cheeseburger, but I decided to switch to a coney dog instead.

When my food was served, I noticed the coney dog was missing the onion toppings. I asked the staff about it, and the response was simply, "Sorry, we ran out of onions." Why wasn't this mentioned when I placed my order? I brushed it off, thinking it just wasn’t my lucky day.

Then, I saw that my waffle was served with a knife, a spoon, butter—but no maple syrup. So, I went to the counter to ask for a fork and maple syrup. To my surprise, they had run out of forks at the counter and had to fetch one from the storeroom. Were they hoping I wouldn’t notice the missing fork? While waiting, I observed the staff only then start preparing what they called "maple syrup."

You might think this would be the end of the mishaps, but no. Apparently, they’ve introduced a new menu item: sourdough waffles. I couldn’t help but wonder how long the waffle mixture had been sitting there to ferment. Thanks, but no thanks. To top it off, the "maple syrup" tasted like nothing more than sugar water.

My visit to A&W in Kepong was truly delightful. The restaurant's strategic location near Kepong Baru MRT Station and a bus stop enhances its accessibility. Being a fan of their Coney Dog and Root Beer Float, I found the taste as satisfying as always, with the added joy of indulging in their delightful ice cream waffle. The service, led by the friendly and professional manager, Ms. Syafiqah, was exceptional. Her politeness and helpfulness contributed to the fantastic overall experience. The restaurant's cleanliness and family-friendly ambience make it suitable for both families and young children, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. A&W in Kepong proves to be a great spot to unwind, offering not only a tasty meal but also a comfortable setting, making it a go-to choice for those seeking a satisfying and enjoyable...

No wonder the Root Beer is the only survived items....Glad its served over a chilled, thick glass mug instead of disposable paper cup.

Anything else is pure medicore: Fried chicken and burgers are not above competition.

The "exclusive" Waffle and coneys failed to stood up as a signature (the waffle is thick, maybe meant to be eaten as chicken waffle - but here we used with thinner and crispier crust).

My least favorite - the fries and chicken.

Fries - soggy when served, so it wasted its salt and pepper. Fried chicken (spicy) - the artificial spicy seasoning is too obvious (sprinkle on top), leaving the scent of artificially spicy, but almost tasteless inside.....at least the ketchup and chili sauce...
