Valentine’s Day at Frangipani Restaurant was nothing short of a culinary masterpiece. This Michelin-starred Indian dining experience offered an unforgettable evening filled with flavors that delighted the senses and left a lasting impression.
We began our meal with the Paya Shorba, a rich and aromatic broth that warmed the soul. The depth of flavors, from the slow-cooked lamb trotters infused with spices, was perfectly balanced, making it a comforting start to our dining journey.
Next came the Galauti Kebab, a dish synonymous with melt-in-the-mouth perfection. The minced meat was exquisitely spiced and tender, each bite dissolving effortlessly, offering an explosion of traditional Awadhi flavors.
The Butter Chicken was a classic reimagined with finesse. The creamy, tomato-based gravy had just the right balance of tanginess and sweetness, enveloping the succulent chicken pieces in velvety goodness. It was paired wonderfully with the Garlic Confit Naan, which was soft, pillowy, and fragrant with roasted garlic.
For seafood lovers, the Recheado Fish was a revelation. The fish was impeccably fresh, marinated with Goan recheado masala, bringing a fiery, tangy burst of coastal flavors. It was grilled to perfection, retaining its moistness while delivering a delightful char.
A standout was the Kerala Chicken Kalyanam Biryani, a dish that embodied South Indian culinary richness. Each mouthful carried a harmonious blend of heat and warmth, reminiscent of a traditional wedding feast in Kerala.
Ending on a sweet note, the Callebaut Chocolate Panna Cotta was pure indulgence. Silky smooth and rich with chocolate, the dessert struck a balance between bitterness and sweetness. It was the perfect finale to our gastronomic journey.
The ambiance at Frangipani added to the experience—elegant, romantic, and intimate, making it an ideal setting for a special Valentine’s celebration. The service was impeccable, with knowledgeable staff guiding us through the menu with warmth and professionalism.
Frangipani Restaurant not only lived up to its Michelin star reputation but exceeded expectations, offering a Valentine’s Day dinner that was as memorable as it was delicious. Highly recommended for those seeking an elevated Indian...
Read moreWe recently visited Frangipaani for an office lunch to celebrate a teammate’s birthday, as he’s a big fan of Indian cuisine and had heard great things about the restaurant. First impressions were undeniably impressive — the entrance and interior are elegant, upscale, and well-designed, perfect for a fine-dining experience, a romantic date, or a classy family dinner.
The menu reflects the premium ambiance, with prices leaning on the higher side — which was expected. But unfortunately, the overall food experience didn’t live up to the hype or the price tag.
⸻
✅ What Worked • Vada Pav: Easily the highlight of the meal. Crispy, flavorful, and hit all the right notes — authentic and satisfying. • Paya Soup: While not entirely traditional or deeply slow-cooked in flavor, it was still enjoyable and comforting.
⸻
❌ What Disappointed • Andhra King Prawns: These came highly recommended, but were burnt and lacked flavor. Instead of smoky char, we got a bitter, overcooked taste. Very disappointing. • Lal Maas & Rogan Josh: Both mains were over-spiced, to the point where the original flavors of the dishes were lost. The lal maas in particular lacked the deep, rich taste you’d expect. Honestly, I’ve made better at home. • Lamb Chops: Despite claims of overnight marination and clay oven grilling, the flavor didn’t come through. The meat was underwhelming and flat. • Biryani (Lamb & Chicken): Both were average at best. For the price, you’d expect something aromatic, layered, and memorable — this wasn’t it.
⸻
🍽️ Other Notes • Naans were soft and well-made — one of the better items on the table. • Cocktails looked appealing but were on the expensive side. We didn’t try them, so can’t comment on the taste.

⚖️ Overall Verdict
Frangipaani has beautiful interiors and a fine-dining setup, but the food simply does not justify the price. If you’re going primarily for the food experience, I wouldn’t recommend it — there are far better Indian restaurants in KL that serve more flavorful food at half the cost.
However, if you’re looking for a place to grab a few drinks in a classy setting with light snacks, this place might work — just don’t go with high culinary...
