In 1885, a British surveyor of the then British Malaya, William Cameron led an expedition into the main mountain range of the peninsular's interior where he discovered “a plateau with gentle slopes shut in by loftier mountains” Although unmapped at that time the area was often referred to as Cameron Highlands, “where a good sanatorium might be founded” as a cool resort of health and pleasure. However it wasn't until 1925 when Sir George Maxwell had the area developed as a hill station, allowing for recreational areas, residential sites and agricultural development. We went to the BOH plantation the day before (that was lacking also but you got to see tea production as it’s an actual factory through glass windows so better than here) but this place just not worth it. We even had a cup of (expensive) tea after and it was disgusting. They just made the green tea for us it didn’t even come with a teabag or tea leaves like you’d expect. A tram helps you make this visit easier if you are challenged. Ask for a stronger cup of tea if you are a tea drinker - they will oblige happily.
