My group and I ordered twice from the Memory Cafe during our stay at Fraser’s Hill, once for breakfast and another for lunch. I ordered the Big Breakfast (RM 15.80) which has scrambled egg, sausage, mushrooms, baked beans, hashbrown, toasted bread, a little bit of salad, and some ketchup and mayo on the side. I also ordered a hot chocolate (RM 9.00). It leaned on the pricier side, especially the hot chocolate, since there wasn’t anything particularly special about it. However, the overall meal was decent, and it was filling for the morning activities ahead. We came back for lunch and I ordered the grilled lamb chop (RM 35) with additional coconut rice. It wasn’t as tender as I’d liked, but the flavor was good enough. I had also tried my friend’s order of Nasi Lemak Chicken Rendang (RM 15), which was absolutely delicious especially the rich flavor of the sambal. What makes this place good, however, is the ambiance and the customer service. The restaurant is situated at a hill-ish side near the High Pines road where you’re able to enjoy the view and listen to the song of birds, perhaps even spot a beautiful white-thighed surili from a distance. We were also given the additional coconut rice free of charge, and the staff is generally very pleasant. Overall, a no-frills, decent restaurant that does its job.

The good: - Good range of western & local types of food. - I ordered the English Breakfast for breakfast. It was decent. - Table arrangement, you are on high ground with a good view. - Nice cool weather to enjoy while eating. - opens early breakfast around 9am, when most of the other cafe/ restaurants are still closed. The bad: - I think the Teh Tarik was a little Expensive. RM 5+. - the biggest negative for me was the smell of drain/ sewer where I was sitting. I would have stayed longer and take my time enjoying my teh tarik. But because of the smell, I just wanted to get out of there fast. Hope the management can do something about this.

Tried the all-day breakfast set here and it was decent. The scrambled eggs were soft and nicely seasoned with black pepper. Sausage was basic but okay. Toast was crispy, and the hash brown added a satisfying crunch. Baked beans and mushrooms were standard, though the mushrooms could use more flavor. The fresh veggies added a nice touch, and the ketchup-mayo combo was a bit unusual but worked well enough. Also had crinkle-cut fries on the side—crispy and well-salted. Overall, a simple, no-frills breakfast that fills you up. Nothing extraordinary, but it does the job!

Note: we didn't try the food, so this review is solely based on their service

I don't know what's with the high reviews about their service, but when we went there, it just didn't cut it. We waited for almost 15 mins for someone to take our order, but no one did.

First I went to the counter to ask how to order, they told us to sit first. Then we waited for longer but still no one served us. Then, the waiter went to another table that came after us, and when we asked him to take our order, he told to wait again. A few minutes later, we left.

We understand that it might've been peak hour and they're understaffed or busy, but taking an order merely requires asking what we want and jotting it down. It would've been a totally different case if it took long for our food to come out (which is understandable if they're busy).

Conclusion: if taking an order itself took so long, I can only imagine how long preparing/making our food would...

The gem here is the environment, dining under the sky when the weather permits, that's very english. Unfortunately, the fries I ordered were overcooked. It came dark brown. Politely informed the waiter, but no action was taken until this was brought to the attention of probably a more senior staff. He acknowledged it and went to the kitchen to seek clarification. 5mins later, I was told the kitchen will prepare a new fries. It took about 20mins to return and serve the new fries. Overall it was OK. The grilled chicken is delicious but serving was small. Overall, just good. Be mindful of crowd during peak time. Parking not an issue,...
