Drinks - ordered iced caramel latte, iced cafe latte, iced cinnamon latte. All drinks were not too sweet and still had that coffee taste, which is good. They were served in tall cups, which is worth the price. Drinks ordered were from RM11-13. Drinks came quite late. Had to wait for quite a while for the drinks to arrive. When served, they didn’t mention the name of drinks thus made us wonder a bit on which is which. As a decency, I think it would be better to just mention what is being served to customers.

Food - Ordered their New York cheesecake, Mushroom pasta (couldnt quite remember the exact name), and crème brulee french toast. For New York cheesecake, its just normal cheesecake and average. For pasta, the taste is just like pasta in mushroom soup(?) it is quite soupy and for me, not worth to try. The crème brulee toast, portion wise is good, enough to share 2-3 people (not so hungry). It was light, but quite sweet. Food took so long to arrive.

Service - Most staffs were polite. When serving food, they didn’t come with cutlery, hence we had to ask. Since we also ordered a french toast, and it was the last thing to arrive, they also didn’t provide and served it with knife, hence we had to ask again for the second time. Otherwise, I think there is no other problem. Oh, I also wish the staffs were a bit more attentive to customers as it was kind of hard to grab their attention for anything. They were also kinda rushing when serving the meals and drinks hence you kinda lost the chance to ask for help. Not sure if this make sense to anyone.

Atmosphere - The cafe has really nice decorations and interesting choice of music. BUT bear in mind, it is REALLY REALLY HOT INSIDE. They have ceiling fan yes, but you can hardly feel the wind, especially with Malaysia’s hot and humid weather. We were drenched in sweats inside ngl… which made the whole experience not as nice. Oh also, they had limited seatings? and all the tables were close to each other.. hence it was quite awkward seating so close to another family with kids who roam...

I’m not one to provide negative reviews but in a small town filled with service and hospitality, this place falls short. I’ve been several times, but this is likely my last. The good: mono latte, matchagato. The steak and the lamb are not bad dishes. The interior design is nice as well.

But you’ll have to ask is all this worth the shoddy service? There is no place for mediocrity. The wait staff are just that, mediocre. How did they find such dullards?

They don’t open on time some days (consistency is key). They choose to close at 10pm despite their listing saying it’s 11pm. In fact when people are still sitting there at 10.05pm they’d turn you away. Today, after the temperature check, the waitress just heads inside so I pick a table; when she finds out I’m alone she insists I move. Then when it’s time to order, they’re short of ice cream. Did I catch them on a bad day? Nope. This is cumulative.

For better service and food, head to Pickers on the same road. Further down there is also Lena cafe. For matcha and desserts, go to Rasa Sayang. This place has so much potential, but the lackluster attitude of the wait staff will have you running...

Read on TripAdvisor that the steak here was good. So ordered the highest priced steak in the menu. Temperature requested = medium rare. When it finally came, it was Well Done.

Kudos for the staff to keep asking "how was the steak?" , "need to cook it up a bit more?". So I had to tell him the truth, also, I'm paying for the highest priced steak here, which was also praised on TripAdvisor.

He took my WD steak and came back after probably 10 minutes, saying the "prime" steak is out of stock. Should not need to wait that long to tell me about this :( so I ordered the 2nd highest priced steak, temp mid-rare.

He came back after 15minutes, telling me they can't cook the cheaper steak mid-rare, as it is too thin. So I ordered grill chicken instead.

Waited another 10-15 minutes, for the chicken. It was flavorful. Steamed potato and veggies are enjoyable. Unfortunately my cold calamansi drink has loss its coldness, due to waiting too long, and now at room temperature.

Was tempted to rate them 0 star. But fortunately, no other dishes we served to other customers before I had the chicken, so they have their priorities correct. Just not on...

Everything and everywhere in this cafe is absolutely gorgeous. Its worth visiting if you ever come down to Kuantan. Salad and Tjantek specialty juice is also tasty. Will come back again!

Tjantek is a very aesthetically pleasing cafe. It’s pleasing to eyes, ears and cafe hoppers who are looking for a cosy spot in the heart of Kuantan. The service is okay but can be improved because they seem a bit cold or maybe all of them were having a bad day, it was hard to tell. They can be a bit more attentive and welcoming to customers to make it a better experience for all. The food was okay, although we had high expectations because the food at Notis Cafe was really realllyyyy good. Going from Notis Cafe to Tjantek made the food a little bit underwhelming, which can be improved as well. One other thing that the management should really look into is the takeaway packaging. We were surprised that our Chicken Chop takeaway was given to us in a goreng pisang brown bag 😅 When we clarified about the packaging and asked if we were to takeaway Rib Eye Steak, would it still be given in the same brown paper packaging and the staff said yes, but the sauces will be packed separately. Do ask them first before deciding to takeway any food because you’re in for a surprise.
