I know people go here for the gram.. but if you wanna have something that’s worth your money and proper service then this is probably not it.
Went in for lunch, the owner approached couple behind us if they were dining in or taking away and the group behind them as well but didn’t asked us.. not that I want to be validated but the queuing system works for taking away and those who are dining in could just grab a seat and scan the qr for the menu which we weren’t aware of when we first step in.
There was no seats available cause ofc its full.. fair. We were told there was only one table that was available cause the other seats were given to those were queueing behind us 😂
Fair. Went and sat there and my friend pointed upstairs seating wondering if there was any seats and they agreed to let us sit upstairs where there was 3 tables vacant.
About 15 mins after ordering, the lights went off at where we were seated. We were clueless and i tried pressing all the buttons cause i realise it was a busy restaurant and didn’t wanna bother the staff.. lights didn’t come on even after 10 mins. Went down to ask the staff why there’s no light and one guy replied “blackout” and walked away…
I was like…???? That’s it? No changing of seats for someone paying for your food? We eat in the dark? What’s going on? Hahahaha at this point i was ready to leave cause i already had a bad impression when the moment i stepped in and the owner skipped us but asked the rest of the behind person queuing. But i was like let’s judge it with the food and be fair.
Food arrives.. and we had to asked them to MOVE US where there was light. We ordered a salad but the fish and chip came first, followed by lasagne.. isn’t salad something that should be served first? I was like very confused… food wise salad was the only dish that was worth it in my opinion and my best friend thought the same.
Mind you the food is pricey here so if you’re gonna visit maybe make a trip when it’s less busy, cause seems like their staff lacks customer service and problem solving skills.. was quite disappointed ngl but to me this place was just aesthetic...

In Kuantan, Jalan Besar is one of the earliest and most popular commercial area in the past. Also known as “ham yue gai” (Salted Fish Street) due to the fact that the street was once full of shops selling this famous dried seafood product. Now this stretch of road had undergone some sort of cafe renaissance - I can easily count not less than 10 cafes and bakeries.
The Hock Bee building once stood along Jalan Besar, and the building now is occupied by Ms Elliot. Most of the facade was retained - HOCK BEE BROS SDN BHD stone sign and a very old traditional congratulatory board - were displayed proudly.
I like the fact that once I walked in, the main counter was right in front of me.. with tables on the left and right, with more tables at the back section. The old tiles of the past were kept while marbles counter too and modern lightings brightened up the whole place - the entire premise is a blend of both modern and traditional designs which make it kind of special.
▪️Mui Heong Aglio E Olio RM26.90 - Mui Heong salted fish, ikan masin bulu ayam, chicken ham, spaghetti, cili api, garlic, poached egg, crispy salted fish. I could actually taste the fragrant mui heong salted fish - just nice without overpowering the whole dish. The chicken ham felt generic, the pasta could use less oil, and the crispy salted fish was a lovely crispy touch. ▪️Ms Elliot Tiramisu (RM17) - classic tiramisu infused with ginger bread coffee. Let’s say that the texture and taste have much to improve. ▪️Signature drinks - Batu Hitam (cold brew lemon coffee) & Sg Pandan Waterfall (pandan coconut coffee) priced from RM14.90-RM15.90. The former was refreshing while the latter tasted a bit sweet to our liking.
After the curry mee earlier, we could not order much to eat but the hot food in the menu looked promising. I’d made it a point for Round 2 the next time I come back to...

Hello,
I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction regarding my recent visit. Here are my main complaints:
Service Delay: I arrived around 1:55 PM and was seated promptly by the waiter. However, we waited an unacceptable 10-15 minutes before a waitress finally approached us to provide the menu and take our drink orders. This is not the level of service I expected.
Misleading Portion Sizes: I ordered a sharing set advertised for 4 people, but it was clear that the portions were far from adequate. The only items that could serve four were the pizza and drinks. This is misleading information—the advertising for the “4 pax” set was confusing, and I had to ask several questions on whatapps after payment just to get clarity on the promotion. Please clarify more before someone purchase this.
Food Quality: Creamy Seafood Bisque: Served hot and thick, good too but it was way too salty Fresh Waldorf Salad: Tasted good, but the portion was only enough for 2 people. Golden Chicken Parmigiana: This dish was inedible—overly salty with burnt breading that left a bitter taste. I didn’t finish it at all. Squid Ink Seafood Pasta with Beetroot & Garlic Infusion: The only bright spot; this dish was genuinely good! 👍🏻 Gourmet Pesto Pizza: Delicious! My mom and I only finished half, and it was sufficient for 4 people. 👍🏻 Drinks: All four drinks were perfect—no complaints here. Mother’s Day Petit Gateaux: While it looked nice, it was excessively sweet.
Overall Impression: I did text my complain and comment via whatapps as I booked and paid through there but left un-answered, no apologies whatsoever. While there were a couple of decent dishes, the service was mediocre at best, and several items were overly salty. The misleading advertisements about portion sizes are unacceptable, and the waitstaff need to be more attentive, especially...
