My parents visited around 4–5 PM on 10 August. They ordered nasi lemak, wanton noodle soup, drinks, plus side dishes (wanton soup and “bak choi”). The chicken portion in the nasi lemak was very small for the price.
When my dad was almost done eating, the side dishes still hadn’t arrived. Only after asking did the waitress say the “bak choi” was sold out and had been replaced with a few cucumber slices in the nasi lemak — without informing them beforehand. Replacing the bak choi with just a few cucumber slices is not an equivalent substitute in value, taste, or portion, and is very disappointing. As for the wanton soup, she said it was “added” into my mum’s wanton noodle soup.
Side dishes should be served separately as ordered, not merged into main dishes without consent. It’s unacceptable that the staff didn’t inform them about changes until asked.
In the end, the waitress kept apologising and they waived the wanton soup charge, replacing it with a separate bowl. This incident reflects poor communication and service, which is disappointing for a restaurant with 3 outlets in the northern region...
Read morePak Fung Kopitiam at Bukit Mertajam is definitely worth a visit if you love authentic local flavors. The place has a nostalgic kopitiam vibe with a clean and comfortable setting, making it a nice spot for breakfast or lunch.
The menu is quite extensive – from traditional toast, half-boiled eggs, and local coffee to heartier dishes like noodles, rice sets, and specialty drinks. The Hainanese-style coffee is rich and aromatic, and their toast with kaya & butter is a must-try. Portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable for the quality.
Service is friendly and efficient, even during peak hours, and food doesn’t take too long to arrive. Parking around the area can be a bit tricky, but it’s manageable.
Overall, a great spot for those who enjoy a modernized kopitiam with a traditional taste. Perfect for casual meals with...

Only comment is we wished the bread was toasted to give it a nice crisp Sai Ka Hor - Could be more kao, but still nice Salted egg minced meat Congee - Loved it! Generous portion and silky smooth. But sadly out of you tiao 🥹
