金喜大酒家 Xi Palace Restaurant BM (formerly known as kim hee bm) — Restaurant in Penang

Made reservation 3 days in advance for a room for 8 pax. Paid half of the minimum spend and a room number was provided.

The series of unfortunate events begun upon arrival, where my family and I were directed to the assigned room, but it was filled with unknown people. No prior notification on the ‘change’ of room was provided. When tried to raise this matter, the supervisor abruptly directed us to the toilet, without trying to understand what was the issue. Having clarified the issue, a room was haphazardly set up, lacking cutleries and condiments.

When asked for the beverage menu, the supervisor informed that the restaurant has none. When asked what drinks do the restaurant offer and to speak in a language that we understand, he nodded his head. We had to walk to the cashier’s counter to request for service since the supervisor never returned. Menu arrived in a while, but it was food menu, which we have pre-ordered. Salted egg fish skin was served, instead of salted egg squid that we ordered. To complete the series of unfortunate events, the invoice was erroneous.

My third visit to this restaurant was all but bad service, where much is left to be desired. The saving grace was an attentive Nepalese server, who, I did not...

I recently dined at Xi Palace and had an amazing experience. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of excellent.

The food was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend trying the Pork Rib, which was cooked to perfection. The flavors were rich and balanced, and the presentation was beautiful. We also enjoyed the Nyonya steam fish, which was a great complement to the meal.

What really stood out was the attention to detail and the quality of ingredients. Everything tasted so fresh and well-prepared. The dessert was a delightful end to the meal—sweet, but not overly indulgent.

Overall, I had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning. If you're looking for a great place to eat with outstanding service and mouthwatering food, I highly recommend Xi Palace!

A place that has lost it's lustre.

It's a day and night difference for breakfast and dinner. As their dim sum is rather famous in the area.

Place is almost empty for dinner with maybe 1 or 2 tables occupied. Even the ACs were not switched on making the entire space warm and stuffy which just reduces your appetite for food.

Unskilled waitress, yeah one, singular waitress patronising on all the tables just doesn't seem to know what to do. As the manager just seems to order her around.

Prying eyes just seem to be around you while you eat as the somewhat "annoying" manager is there to "cater" to your needs which is unnecessary.

Steep pricing of dishes has really driven away potential customers which are opting for set meals or cheaper alternatives.
