We were a group of 4 people. This is my 4th visit ( 23rd June ) to this restaurant. I had refrained from posting my thoughts until I am certain that the food is great. Just a heads up. The food is excellent and very reasonable in price.
The place opens up around noon but time to arrive just before 11.45 am as there are lots of, nowadays food tour buses arriving just after 12ish. Most fishing village has some fishy smell but this is great. No such smells. The restaurant is windy, opens out into the River mouth and you can enjoy a meal while watching everyday activities of fishing boats going out and returning as well as sorting of fish, if you’re lucky.
A table of fresh seafood of the day for selection is available immediately after entering on your left hand side. Go pick your fresh seafood now. They are kept fresh with an ice covering.
You’ll get fish of the day, big cockles, prawns, crabs both meaty ones and the ones with yummy “ Koh “, small crabs that can be eaten whole ( yummy ), sometimes oyster ( but small ) shell fish like lala ( or pipi as in australia ) amd lots more. An array of and choice of vegetables. No other meat just seafood.
We bought a huge grouper and had the head cut off and brought it to the restaurant to have it cooked 2 ways. They charge RM 20 for each dish cooked with outside fish. The other time, I had a fish steamed instead.
We were so satisfied and so full with the food as we lounged in the cool breeze that swept through the restaurant. It was a fabulous meal with Chinese tea continuously refilled, watching the activities of the fishing village.
Just to show you what we managed to buy fish just a stone’s throw away. They will clean the fish for you too.
Try out the restaurant. You won’t regret it. Would love to hear what you all think of my...
Read moreA very interesting experience dining at the Kuala Sepetang river, we had dinner at one of the many restaurants there called Xin Seafood Restaurant. Located right beside the Kuala Sepetang river built on a platform, it offers a one of a kind dining experience with its fresh seafood catch at the same time you're witnessing an ambiance natural sight, with migrating birds and live fishes swimming in the river. The journey here takes you roughly 40 minutes from the Simpang traffic junction. The road here is a little narrow minus the amount of heavy traffic flow.
Here in the restaurant, the menu will catch your attention with various seafood dishes. To the less fortunate eating here will be awesome, but for the rich it's chicken feeds. A meal here can run into the hundreds or thousands depending on what you ordered. The varieties on offer ranges from succulent prawns to flavorful fish, each dish is unique in its own taste.
The service is attentive, ensuring you have a pleasant meal. Overall, Xin Seafood Restaurant, though not necessary a must-visit destination but suits well for seafood lovers while exploring Kuala Sepetang. Don't be alarmed when settling the bill, accept it with an open heart. Oh, a word of caution, they prefer cash then any other forms of payment, so come prepared. If you're game enough and the cash in hand, why not. ......................

Read moreMy 1st trip to Kuala Sepetang and just randomly chose a seafood restaurant by the river. If not for the big signboard by the roadside, you would not think there is a restaurant behind the building. The entrance is through a narrow alley. Surprising its quite a spacious restaurant after the tiny passage...with the usual timber floor boards above the water. We had to order from the seafood counter since we do not want the set menu. A bit odd. We ordered from some the pictures displayed around the restaurant. The dishes were served quite fast although ordering was slow. The deep fried 'bread bowl' bread which we ordered with prawns curry did not turn up until we asked. We were told it was RM48 with 6 prawns but there were only 5. The steam squids with spicy lime sauce was fresh and tasty but not cleaned properly. The gladius (plastic looking pieces) and black spotty skins were not removed totally. Our third dish was the deep fried signature tofu...served without any sauce. We had to get the chili sauce from the serving counter ourselves. Overall the food was okay but bit overpriced. Guess because it is a tourist spot. You pay for the great view. Should improve on the...
