Read moreI recently visited Teien Japanese Buffet and had a mixed experience. The restaurant focuses heavily on flavor, but some dishes were a bit overwhelming. For example, even the chawanmushi had a heavy soy sauce taste, which might not be to everyone’s liking.
A few highlights include their spicy grilled squid, especially the grilled scallops, which were quite tasty. Their homemade lime juice was decent as well. The salmon belly was okay, but unfortunately, it’s limited to only two slices per person, which makes it not worth the high price.
However, I would recommend avoiding their fried soft shell crab — it wasn’t good. Their dessert cakes also lacked flavor, and I’m not sure if it was due to them sitting out too long or something else, but they weren’t fresh.
One major issue was with the grilled salmon had a strange odor. For salmon sashimi, the first plate was great, but when we ordered a second round, the salmon looked much darker and seems like colouring. Maybe the salmon wasn’t wild-caught, and the quality was inconsistent. We decided to stop ordering salmon altogether after that.
Another downside was the rice; it wasn’t cooked properly and was a bit hard. I hope they improve their rice quality. On a positive note, if you’re celebrating a birthday, you get a chance to throw the dice for a discount, which is a fun touch.
One more thing to note is the placement of drinks and desserts. It was a bit inconvenient for customers sitting further inside the restaurant to access these items.
Overall, there are some good options here, but I think the quality and consistency could be improved, especially...
Read moreI came here because of a XHS post (where it claims it’s better than another restaurant Mitas). But in reality, it’s NO WHERE close to Mitas at all, NO WHERE CLOSE TO, with a higher price charged (RM102.08 including tax) vs Mitas**, with a few reasons below:
The variety is low, they serve a lot of “rice” in overall. The Menu has a lot of different sections (like rice, noodles, soup, sashimi), but the options under each section is very limited. Mitas** definitely wins on this.
Drinks: The standard “tea and coffee”, + those sugary cordial drinks. They do not serve carbonated drinks - so no Coke no Sprite! Again, Mitas** wins it.
Dessert: They have waffle, fruit, and Ice Cream. But then their artificial ice cream is not good at all, just comes with 2 flavours - Chocolate and Vanilla (that’s all?!) , operated at a self-service Ice cream machine like those in Ikea. Again, Mitas** serves you with premium ice-creams with flavour like Matcha and Black sesame.
In short, I will not come back with the price paid for such quality, there are much better options available in...
