I have eaten here on several occasions and the quality has remained top notch all these years. Zakaria Restaurant is one among the 10 Zakaria outlets in Sandakan. Started by the immigrant son of Sheikh Shahul Hameed from India, it was one of the pioneers in Indian Muslim cuisine since the early years. This particular outlet serves Capati & Roti Canai at 7am in the morning with 2 types of gravy, dhall & fish curry. The chef also dishes out a delicious Kerala style Nasi Beriyani at 11am. I don’t know why this restaurant doesn’t have 5 stars! The menu is extensive and features Malaysian/Indian/Indonesian specialities, the service is amazing, the flavors are incredible, with local prices. It’s also open 24 hours while so many other restaurants open late and close early. This is my second time here in 12 hours! For travelers passing through Sandakan - it is a must.
