Kenny's — Restaurant in Sarawak

A Disappointing Culinary Experience at Kenny's, Miri:

My visit to Kenny's in Miri was a mix of highs and lows, with a notable downturn during the main course. The restaurant exuded a great ambience with a romantic vibe, setting a positive tone for the evening. However, the staff's average service proved to be a letdown as they struggled to handle an out-of-the-norm situation.

The starters were delightful, offering a promising start to the dining experience. Unfortunately, the downward spiral began with my main course, a fish dish. Initially, I was informed that the fish type had to be changed due to freshness issues. However, upon tasting the dish, I encountered an overwhelmingly off-putting, fishy taste, indicating a lack of freshness. Despite politely expressing my dissatisfaction, the situation took a negative turn when the chef, in a loud voice and in Chinese, disputed any issues with the dish in the kitchen.

This unprofessional reaction and the fact that he did not even bother to come out to speak to me about it, along with the audacity to charge for the unsatisfactory meal without offering a resolution, left a lasting negative impression. Even a simple gesture, such as considering the removal of the dish from the bill, could have made a difference. Despite having encountered similar situations elsewhere, where amicable resolutions were achieved, Kenny's response was disappointing. Regrettably, my experience at Kenny's was marred by the unpleasant incident, and I have no intention of returning. The presentation of the food was superb. We were very impressed with the well curated food. Had the prawn bisque, which was very flavourful, and the tinge of acidity and garlic in the soup made it very appetising. We then had the pasta with beef stroganoff. Beef was very tender with the generous creamy sauce (with herb) coating each strand of pasta. The garlic bread to go with it was super tasty. Wished we could have ordered more on the side. We also had the grouper, which was very surprising. It was firm and cooked nicely, the presentation was amazing too. I wanted to call out the accompanying asparagus in the grouper dish. It had a tantalising smoky flavour and was so good! It made me think that i should have gotten more asparagus dishes to try it as the focus of the dish. Food was exceptional. BUT what I don't like is the fact that they are not upfront about their credit card terminal was faulty - said that certain digits on the payment terminal cannot be pressed and they are well aware of it. I feel that is like a tactic to forcedl customers to be paying in cash/ debit instead. It would be much appreciated if an upfront notification to the customer early about the their payment option for tonight was only via cash or debit or QR code.
