If you're looking for the real 'kambing bakar', this isn't quite the place for that.
I was disappointed by the mediocrity of the food served that doesn't match the pricing of it (one set of kambing bakar served with a medium-sized bowl of plain rice and even more plain soup with a free common drink on the side is priced at RM 14.50).
At first look the amount of kambing bakar served look sumptuous, but alas, most of them are actually just bones, fats and skin which are all not edible. In short, they only used the cheap lamb chop cutlets (like the ones used for cheap lamb chops), grilled it, then covered them with black pepper sauce. There is very little edible parts that counted, apart from the salad that was place at the bottom of it.
As for the taste, the black pepper sauce is really the only redeeming feature of this dish. It's hot and tastes good. The texture is just right. But as for the rest of the dish, is just too simple. The portion of the rice is average (and no it's not nasi kukus), and the taste of the soup is just so plain. The way it is served is also plain with no garnishing. Sorry to say this, but I've had meals at this price with better taste and with much, much better portions using real mutton/qibas (not lamb!).
But no worries, if you're under a budget and not looking to spend more than RM10 to eat here, there's other meals served here for that price range. There's a range of nasi ayam penyet, soup served with rice and others that you can try from as low as RM4.50 And if you're really low on money, the nasi lemak biasa is only for RM2.50!
Personally, this was my first and last time trying on this place.
Side notes:
This place is always very crowded and usually goes 'full house' during peak hours.
Lots of parking lots around, so no biggie.
The area is quiet and calm, but inside the restaurant is a bit hectic.
Great place...
Read moreOmg, this place is super overhyped! The kambing bakar tastes okay, but nothing out-of-this-world kinda dish like most raved about. It's packed with people on weekends/holidays, so the service becomes slow (but understandable).
Mind you, your kambing bakar will differ when you come when it's too crowded, and when it's not, i.e. just a piece of salad when it's crowded vs salads and cucumber when it's not.
I had high expectations of the food and they disappointed me big time. I also tried the nasi ayam penyet on my second trip here (my bf loves the kambing bakar so the second time, he tagged his friends along) as i wasn't interested in the kambing bakar set. Verdict for nasi ayam penyet is 5/10 for taste, 10/10 for portion.
Btw, if you eat spicy food daily, the kambing bakar might not be hot & spicy for you. Otherwise, perhaps it is a little hot (although i don't eat spicy food daily, i love spicy food, but i don't feel the kambing bakar is hot & spicy at all - but my bf thinks it's spicy!).
Whether i would recommend this place, perhaps just once to try for yourself. And if you're on a budget and you want to eat kambing bakar, this is the right place, i suppose.
Otherwise, one of the stalls in Tahu Bakar Station, Kota Damansara (i think that's the name) which sells this, have much, much tastier kambing bakar. Price is...
Read moreWent and had lunch there after Friday prayers.. first time here normally it's packed..I was in luck to be able to enjoy my meal in a non crowded environment.
Had the Kambing Bakar set. It was okey.. nothing special about it..it was nice..the beef had the "bakar" taste to it,Kudos to that. But the whole entire set to me was just Okey.
Brought back the Keli set for my wife, it was again just Okey..your standard Keli penyet set..the Keli was of reasonable size thou.👏
Kudos again to having accessible plain water in the outlet..Plain water is the hardest drink to get when you order it..but here you can just get it yourself
Packaging for take away was superb..they sealed their drinks.also food presentation was also a plus..
Overall it's was good.. probably if the food had a certain "wow" factor to it it would probably had gotten 5 stars from...
