By now, I can call Shawn a good friend of mine - we have something in common.. he likes to cook, I like to eat 😋 lol! I first met him when I visited his restaurant located at "mou lui gong gam yuen" geh Subang Bestari. "Of all places, it had to be in this I-dunno-where-tf-i-am-now kind of industrial area" I thought to myself. Thanks to Waze, I finally reached this unassuming restaurant and had a great time there.
To the uninitiated, this restaurant serves fresh oysters and salmon sashimi on top of the regular Chinese dishes. Raw seafood? Yes.. I had my reservation at the beginning but all the doubts were quashed when all of us had one of the best meals. There was even a time where they declined our order of their salmon because it was not fresh enough - talk about professionalism.
Then Shawn decided to go one step higher by taking up two lots upstairs and turned it into a private kitchen. He even hired a renowned master chef which had extensive cooking experience to helm the kitchen. Best of all, my makan kakis (whisky kaki too) had the privilege to be the first ones to dine here as soon as it was opened for business. Needless to say, the dining experience was great!
First birthday celebration (sometime in June) ◾Baked oyster with garlic sauce ◾ Ice plant salad with smoked duck breast & lady fingers - had to say that the ice plant salad here is one of the best around. ◾steamed wild tapah fish - times to perfection and they have other fish such as temoleh and patin. ◾Braised pork knuckle with plum sauce - for once, I felt that this knuckle was different from the usual cooking style.. in a good way of course. ◾Prawns 2-way - prawn salad & deep fried prawn roll.. don't you just love varieties? ◾Steamed village chicken with onion sauce - similar to the ones I had in Bentong ◾Claypot iberico rice - picture a big pot of rice topped with the juicy and delicious iberico pork, drizzled with the superior soy sauce and lastly spring onions. ◾Fried rice with ebiko roe for the kids
My birthday celebration ◾Ice plant salad with sea grapes and iberico char siew short ribs - after the awesome trial in Kepong, I requested for the char siew iberico ribs to be served for my siblings and Shawn was kind enough to include it as special. Everyone gave thumb up to this dish. The ice plant salad was great as usual but the presence of the crunchy and succulent sea grapes (also known as green caviar) proved to be the highlight of our starter. ◾Steamed wild tapah fish with chilly and pork lard - presence of pork lard provides the crunchy bites to the fish. ◾8 treasure duck - so good that only bones were left in the end. ◾ Stir fried mixed vegetable with scallop ◾Claypot prawn with glass noodle - I didn't know what sauce they use but it was so good that everyone kept on slurping the glass noodle which was soaked with it. The prawns were fresh and provided the sweetness to the dish. ◾Deep fried salted egg roll ◾Sausage ◾Fried mee hoon
Sometimes he would collaborate with winery to organise wine pairing dinner as well as whisky/brandy too. The private kitchen offers a more intimate dining affair compared to the more casual atmosphere downstairs.

Read moreFirst of all, if you understand Cantonese, this place is described as "mhou lei-gong kam yin" which literally translates into "middle of the wilderness". I mean who would have expected such a weird sounding restaurant. Initially I was thinking if it is a meeting place for members of a secret clan or something. We were there for dinner and booked for 8pm and upon arrival (as told by Waze that "you have now arrived at your destination) we were doubtful. The restaurant was shuttered down. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that the entrance is by the staircase to the 1st floor. Doubts began to creep in when ascending the staircase but upon reaching the 1st floor, we were awed by what we saw.
The display of the ingredients was enough to impress you that the limit to what you could eat is determined by the thickness of your wallet. One can only describe the rest of the meals by experiencing it oneself.
Besides food, it is a must to mention that the air-conditioning is superb. And best of all, the air is so well ventilated.
Parking is available and convenient along...
Read moreWhen I first came in I thought this wasn't even a restaurant :/ it looked like a store instead. But we got into their 'secret' entrance and into the secret room in the wall. The first dish that came out was the soup. It tasted decent, and it's a bit spicy. Then the second dish... the salad. It smells HORRIBLE. The salad is not that good, especially the frozen vegetables. The third dish came out after that which was the rice. After that it took so long for the next dish, that I ended up eating the WHOLE plate of rice without a SINGLE GRAIN LEFT. Finally, after around 20 minutes, the fourth dish came out, which was the fish. This was the ONLY dish that actually tasted good. (Kind reminder that the tomatoes have a horrible aftertaste). The sixth dish, and the last dish, the chicken came out. It was the most nothing burger I've ever tasted. Finally, we got our fruits and that was the end. Design is good, and so is the service (sometimes), but the...
