A hidden spot for awesome fish head curry

Those who have come here or live in Subang Jaya (or its surrounding area) will definitely know about this spot to satisfy their craving for fish head curry. For those who have not, this row of shoplots are hidden among the housing estate of SS19 so you will not know about it.

For the record, I'd only come here twice - I couldn't remember my first trip here, and this post marks my second time coming here with my family. It started with my trip to Woo Ng Kee in Kepong that triggered my quest to taste some of the better fish head curry around Klang Valley.

A phone call to them only to be informed that reservation is not allowed and everything is based on first come first serve basis. Dishes are quite limited with the focus on some of the dishes that they do best. Diners are required to place order with the person manning counter outside before entering the restaurant.

◾fish head curry - the curry gravy was thick, creamy and robust without over cloying. Every mouthful packed a punch with its strong fragrance and generously laden with okra, taufu pok (YES!) and brinjal. ◾boiled octopus - the octopus was nicely done doused with soy sauce & fried garlic. Don't forget to dip into the chilly sauce. ◾spring rolls - the fillings were wrapped with Fu chuk (beancurd) skin & then deep fried. I've got to love the crispiness of the Fu chuk plus the tender meat fillings - it has the beautiful taste of 5-spices in it. ◾Fu Yung egg - one thing that I noticed was that they were quite generous with ingredients. ◾stir fried yaw mak - just because I want something green on the table.

Prices are still being kept at reasonable rate; service could be better but understandable especially when full house. Curry fish head is certainly up to the mark, making me couldn't resist ordering a bowl of rice to douse with the...

Ah Lye Curry Fish Head is a great spot for those craving rich, flavorful Malaysian-style curry fish head. Located less than 5 min drive from Subang Parade / Nu Empire Subang.

The curry fish head is aromatic and well-balanced, not overly spicy but still packed with flavor. The fish is fresh, tender, and cooked perfectly, absorbing all the delicious curry goodness.

Besides the signature dish, the menu offers a variety of classic Chinese-style dishes that pair well with rice, such as butter prawns, tofu, and stir-fried vegetables.

As we order 4 dishes (small size) for 3 adults. The portion seems small. So we do recommend to have at least 1-2 dishes to be in medium size. Total bill - less than RM100 include 2 glass plain water.

The restaurant is simple and unpretentious, with a casual, no-frills dining atmosphere. It can get quite busy during peak hours, so service might be a little slow at times, but the staff remains friendly and efficient.

Overall, a solid place for a satisfying curry fish head meal! Would definitely return.

I cannot give it a full review, I have yet to try the fish curry.

General: Ambience: neighbourhood restaurant. Smack in the middle of the neighborhood. Location: It would be the only bright pod in that vicinity so you cannot miss it. Waiting time: go early so not to wait for long What I liked: watching the diligence of the owner's children. They work seamlessly together.

Food: Assam prawns The dish: the taste was different, but it is of something I tried up north, in Sungai Petani, I think at Glutton's Corner, called the Tahu Bakar with sour sauce years ago.

Taste: sweet taste of prawn with a tinge of sourness, from the tamarind.

Did I like it: I still could not decide. It tasted more like an appetiser than a main dish to go with rice.

Portion: I got 4 big prawns for RM34. I felt cheated, am not sure if it was such a delicacy to be thus limited. You decide. Certainly wasn't fulfilling and they looked sad on the plate.

Claypot steaming tahu and stir fried Vege. Taste: nothing to shout about. Did I like it: was expecting more Portion: very generous corn flour. That's about it.

Would I go back: thinking...
