Island barbeque — Restaurant in North Ari Atoll

During our stay at Kuramathi, we had the chance to dine at Island Barbecue – and it was, without question, one of the most memorable experiences of our trip.

The evening began with a table perfectly set softly lit by lanterns. The atmosphere was elegant and intimate, yet warm and relaxed – just like everything else on the island.

We ordered the Steak Diane, which was flambéed live right next to our table. Watching the chef prepare it with such skill while explaining each step felt like a show in itself – and the result was absolutely delicious (do not leave Kuramathi without ordering this!). We also tried the Prawns and the scallops as starters and they were simply incredible: tender, flavorful, and beautifully seasoned. Every dish was presented with care, and the flavors exceeded all expectations.

Beyond the food, the service was exceptional. The staff were friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely made us feel looked after.

To end the night, we shared the chocolate profiteroles with icecream which was the perfect finale – sweet, aromatic, and full of character.

The Island BBQ is on a different level to the other restaurants on the island. We visited twice because we simply couldn't leave without a second go. The staff made all the difference, especially Saif. The punjabi chicken starter was mind blowing, we could not have anything else. The steak Diane (signature flambeed dish) was cooked at our table on a portable station, and it was out of this world, as well as the jacket potato that went with it.
