Amari by Vineet is located in the Lux Belle Mare. The restaurant decor is beautiful and warm. We were greeted by the hostess and accompanied to our table, which was providing direct view on the kitchen, with two big tandoor oven facing us. From start it was pretty clear we would go for the discovery menu. We selected a Pinot noir to accompany the meal. We started with two Dahi puri variation (these were made of weat shells, masala chickpeas, chutney and topped by yoghurt and beetroot coulissi), a traditional Indian snack intended to be eaten in one single bite in order to savor all the flavors. I love it! Next came a juicy black spices chicken tikka, tamarind, topped by roasted tomato. A lovely dish, very scenic and delicious. Then followed a tandoori cauliflower (gobi), another classic and versatile Indian dish, marinated in red spices, tahini raita, mustard cous cous upma and masala boondi. I truly enjoyed this dish, the explosion of flavors, the acidity, the crunchy of the boondi. Next came chapli gilafi, a minced lamb kebab in patty form, a bell pepper crusted lamb seekh kebab (cylindrical skewer form), raita and pickled onion. A delightfully flavorful lamb dish. Then we had two sticks of crunchy tangy achari paneer, tandoori pickling spices tikka paneer style. I particularly enjoy paneer, haven’t yet got it enveloped by mathi. Which was an interesting variation. Followed by one of my favorites dishes of the evening, a badami murg, almond gravy based dish. The twist given by the addition of sun dried tomato coupled with the roasted almonds, coconut masala sauce was just yummy. It’s a simpler dish, comforting and yet so delish. Next we had a koli fish, spicy fish cooked in banana leaf. This way of cooking is particularly nice as it preserves the fish flesh from drying too fast by steaming it. After we tasted a spicy red prawn, drops of coconut vinegar, garlic and a banana chips with a burnt lemon slice. And for the plat de resistance, the chef’s selection was a kapi lamb chop made with coffee and dosa potato mash, a signature dish a would say. The lamb is so intense in flavors that I believe it’s marinated for quite a while (hours). The meat is simply mouth watering, what a joyful foodie moment we’d. For dessert we had the “broken chocolate cup” and the “vegan chocolate craving” both excellent but at that point of the (excellent) meal we were...

Read moreFaux flowers or trousers?
We had such an interesting experience, I would struggle to rate it anything above a 2.
When we arrived at the hotel (we are staying at the four seasons) they informed us we would not be able to sit unless all males were in long trousers. However the fact that I was I jeans and sandals was not an issue? We were delayed 30 minutes and ultimately spent 3000 rupee on pants in the gift store to resolve the issue. The gentleman that had to change was in a button up shirt, belted shorts and loafers.
I get a dress code. I’m the queen of them for certain times. However, when making this big of a deal, I would expect far more than faux flowers on the table. It didn’t stop there either, the table would be described as a outdoor picnic table at best.
Next came the food. Marginal if you are used to good Indian. The service was okay but we poured our own wine and water all evening. Again, considering the fact that trousers were a must, the whole evening was beyond confusing, frustrating and disappointing.
This is a skip, not to worry if you miss kinda place. If you insist on going, wear trousers and bring low...
