Loved this beautiful seaside restaurant with an old-time colonial vibe. The five-star fine dining food and service completely justified the expense. Between us we went for the signature entrees. That is lobster tail and king prawns. Each of which which were beautifully prepared and generously portioned. Delightfully our table was decorated with a masterpiece of napkin art in the form of two swans making a heart with their necks. The whole issue was floating in a mass of frangipani and bougainvillea. We celebrated our silver anniversary not long ago but this made us feel like we were on our honeymoon. We did not order this, nor ask for this, nor pay for this. The staff simply took the initiative to do this.
An important note. The restaurant stands by itself on the grounds of The Residence, Mauritius, a very fine five-star property. The grounds are secured by private security. If you are coming on your own steam in a rental car, as we were, do make a reservation at The Plantation. The gate guards will check with the restaurant in order to let you onto the grounds. We had our reservation and everyone was exceedingly polite as we were checked into the property. We arrived early and took a tour of the hotel grounds and had a drink in the beautiful lobby bar....

After two difficult days, trying to adapt with the tropical weather of the island, I found this little gem. Service: I was shocked in a good way from the attentiveness and genuine care of the waitress named Yashika, congrats to whoever hired and trained her. Food: I must say that I was sad about the food quality in the rest of the island but The Plantation Restaurant is different than any other place in Mauritius. It’s a magnificent culinary example for any Mauritian chef to follow. This restaurant is the reason to stay at least for two days in the Residence Hotel that the restaurant is located. Great plating of the dishes in a correct balanced way between past and future of global standards ! Flavor equality, between ingredients! Well cooked to the point! Excellent! View: the venue is located on a wide terrace in a colonial structure on the beach, what can I say for the view, the whole island is blessed. Overall: I’m always happy to find places like the The Plantation, the food and service that this place offers can be easily compared with restaurants like La Petit Maison in London, with Cipriani in NYC, and for sure I totally...
Read moreWe were celebrating our two years anniversary with my girlfriend and decided to have dinner in another place than the hotel we were staying in. We booked two days before and were informed there was a casual formal dress code, specifying no open shoes.
When we arrived the floor manager made a sign to us so we would stay at the entrance and don’t pass into the restaurant. Apparently there was a long trouser rule which we haven’t been informed over the phone or any other way. She said we couldn’t pass dressed like this so we have done the trip for nothing and our night was ruined. Appart for the linen shirt that I was wearing, we were dressed fancy (black dress for her, black shirt + linen shirt for me). Not to be insulting but some other people there were dressed way more casually, some of them with super casual tshirts. We regret the lack of information and professionalism of the staff over the phone and on site. We felt insulted by the way it’s...
