Overall, a delicious and unexpected fish and chips place. The surprising standouts for me were the delightful jicama slaw and broccoli salad. What a treat to have such a nice and fresh side along the delicious albeit heavily fried goodies. The key lime pie was impressively presented. We also enjoyed the fresh and flavorful ceviche though it seemed to have more fruit than fish. That said, it was also a nice compliment to the fried totoaba. On that note, the fish was delicious and breading light and crispy, however was JUST a bit too much of a breading to fish ratio for me. The last ding on the food was the highly-touted sweet potato tots were mushy, just 'meh' in my book.
Generally-speaking, the service was friendly and prompt, however the gentleman greeting us at the door was a bit of an intense presence. I appreciated his enthusiasm and detailed explanation of the menu, but would have rather been able to review the menu on my own accord unless I had questions. He also hit us with a survey on an iPad on the way out. I'm all about a good survey and continuous improvement but the overbearing, almost saccharine customer service of this just screamed "corporate gringo chain".
Despite this, I would still consider it a 5-star experience except for the unfortunate fact that everything is served on single-serve paper trays lined with a wax-coated paper. For a place that touts how "sustainably sourced" the food is, the presentation and in-restaurant practices should reflect this. Even more to the point, they charge per to-go container--which I support on premise--but only if this is to cover the cost of a container that wouldn't otherwise be used or to deter people from unnecessary waste. In this case, given that all the serveware in the restaurant was disposable, it just seems like a money grab.
Anyway, this combined with the overbearing survey on the way out kind of left me with a bad taste. I'd come again, but wouldn't make a trip out of my way as some of our friends have said they did. Fortunately El Triunfo is beautiful and worth visiting in its own right, so we'll...
Read moreAte here for lunch while passing through. This place was perfect to stop off and enjoy. Would have loved to sit and enjoy for longer. Looks like a small accommodation part of the property where they have clean restrooms. The fish was fluffy and delicious made fresh to order. Wedges were decent and the side salads were fresh and welcomed after lots of Mexican food. Would definitely recommend and would return if had the...
Read moreWe had the combo #2 fish and chips with broccoli salad, and the lemon parfait for dessert. What can I say other than, “Run, no walking, to Toto Frito!” Top tier food and service. Yes, the menu is short and focused, but you will not be disappointed. One of the best preparations of fish and chips, I’ve had anywhere, and the salad and parfait more than pulled their weight in flavor. An awesome addition...
