Very Disappointing – Overcharged and Treated Rudely
Our visit to Zippers Restaurant was incredibly disappointing. We ordered the Tony’s Special Burger and specifically requested the extra onion rings that the menu stated cost an additional 50 pesos. We made this clear twice to the waiter, and he confirmed both times that it would be just 50 pesos extra. However, when the bill came, we were charged 210 pesos for the onion rings.
We also asked for no coleslaw to be served with any of our meals (we ordered three), and despite this, coleslaw was served with all of them. On top of that, five minutes after ordering, we asked if one of the chicken burgers could be changed to the Tony’s Special Burger. The waiter said he would check, but never came back to update us. We were ultimately served the chicken burger — which we accepted — but basic communication would have gone a long way.
The real issue came when we questioned the bill about the onion rings. The waitress was rude and dismissive, saying there was nothing she could do about the waiter’s mistake. Her exact words were: “I’m not paying it out of my wages.” This raises the question — why should we, as customers, be forced to pay for someone else’s mistake? She continued to argue with us and even accused us of having “no respect.”
As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for years, I was shocked. This is not how customers should be treated. Mistakes happen, but we were the ones left to pay for it, both financially and in the way we were spoken to. Completely unacceptable experience and I would not recommend Zippers to anyone looking for decent service and...
Read moreZipper's is another great place to have a meal right on the Sea of Cortez and about 8 minutes south of San Jose del Cabo. Very casual vibe, literally right on the beautiful sandy beach. We ❤ their shrimp tacos and enchiladas. Their tortilla chips are great but I've had better guacamole elsewhere. Their's is more creamy rather than full on avocado, which I prefer. They do a good salsa. Plenty of great choices on the menu. One thing I did notice when I last ordered their fish and chips, the fish was a bit overcooked. At the time it was very busy so the chef had a lot going on. This is still a great place for a fresh Mex meal and a cold cervaza, plus the location is fabulous. Also well behaved dogs on a leash are welcome! You can also rent surfboards there. Parking is off street, but blink and you can miss the entrance, like we did.
February 26, 2021. Stopped by for lunch again. I ordered the fish again and asjed the server to tell the chef I wanted it perfecto! The previous time it was a bit overcooked. This time it was excellent! Great crispy batter and the fish was moist and tender. The accompanying sides were also delicious, a tartare sauce and fries and coleslaw. My husband had the cheeseburger which he said was great. They also had an amazing guitarist who had a very similar music style to Santana. Awesome! Again, views over the Sea of Cortez are beautiful! Read moreNOV 22 UPDATE: OMG $60 lunch for 2? Their prices have gone way up. Fish and chips x2 Guacamole and couple beers. Used to be half that price. Maybe do to recent renovations. We are locals on a budget and will not return. Many other nearby places with same vibe and lower prices.
Zippers bar and grill is an iconic eatery in Los Cabos. Its well know to many. Aside from being an eatery they even rent surfboards and have many on display - various sizes to fit all needs.
We have been here many times which testament to the fact we know the food will excel. We favor the shrimp tacos but this time we both had the shrimp quesadilla. Five tiny pockets of shrimp and cheese with added ingredients on the side like sour cream, salsa, refried beans and rice. It's a FULL meal! We didn't need the chips and guacamole but we were hungry to start but found later it was overkill to lunch. They are also pet friendly. So after a nice dog walk on the beach our 3 little doggie settled in well under the table. Worth noting the practice distancing, masks and sanitization practices during this whole Covid-19 thing.
