Difficult to judge this one. The scenery is delightful—but most places in Valle de Guadalupe are. The real question for Conchas de Piedra is: Is the food and experience worth the price?
Conchas de Piedra is overpriced relative to the incredible experiences able to be had at other nearby vineyards and restaurants. The most delicious item we had at Conchas de Piedra were the raw oysters. The four ($) sauce extractions we had with the oysters were overly vinegar-ey and detracted from the oysters themselves. The two (2) clams we had were good - but were essential just clam with cheese melted in the middle and a few bits of bacon. Was each claim worth the $8-9 USD paid? No.
Valle de Guadalupe has some stunning culinary experiences at more reasonable prices. For this reason I would pass on...
Read moreOverpriced food, flavorless, nothing special. We ordered 6 dishes from their menu, and all of them were pretty bad. I've been to a few Michelin star restaurants in different countries and that usually means it's going to be good but not this place , I want to know why this place got a star, this makes me doubt the way restaurants gets their stars. They also never changed our plates between courses . in the end, it was just a mixture of everything on the plate. Also , another thing that I thought was pretty distasteful, the was a lady with sunglasses in the back table I'm guessing she's an owner, manager or something but she was talking to one of the servers in a really disrespectful way, overall this place was bad , nice server but inexperienced. I would not...
Read moreConchas de Piedra is a simple and marvelous concept. Mostly just conchas (shellfish) and bubbly. Well, and some delicious pulpo (octopus) as well.
A dozen oysters on the half shell, a delicious smoked abalone with lightly five spiced pickles, tender pulpo seasoned with what tasted like achiote and maybe a smoked salt with a creamy potato salad/slaw to make delicious tacos (to which we added some of that fantastic house tomatillo salsa - riquísimo!), and a bottle of bubbly for around $60 including tip.
And a side of fantastic views, of course.
Only 3 stars because while the food is good and the environment lovely, service was understaffed and overwhelmed and I tend to reserve 4 and 5 stars for restaurants that are great in terms of both food...
